Any Thelonius Monk fans here?
Some internet music site I have on while I "work", just played "Epistrophy". Reminded me of how much I love Monk's quirky, angular sound. (I wonder if Orin & Peter Keepnews will ever finish their biography?)

monk rocks. A piano player I used to play with had a very Monkesque feel:

Monk kicks ass

That's a great show!! That guy is a nut. He was also very funny on Wings.
huh? oh, wrong dude. Seriously though, I've never heard of him but will check it out. Thanks. |
Don, please *do* check out his music. Many of todays players owe much to TM whether they realize it or not.
His music *seems* so simple when you hear it. My wife is a fairly accomplished pianist, yet struggles to play most Monk compositions. Like I said, it seems so easy. |
my wife wanted a piano. I had only one request, she learn to play blue monk.
so I found her a baby grand that fits nicley in her office. I was looking at a intro to jazz keyboardbook and she said "are you SERIOUS?" she had a look on her face as if I had suggested something dirty. we got the book and it looks as if she's actually looking at it.... I'm still waiting and I am serious. now that we're talkin' jazz here... any charlie hunter fans here? that dude puts on some great live shows. paul schuster santa cruz |
Songs like Bemsha Swing will haunt my subconscious for a lifetime.

And Paul sez: "now that we're talkin' jazz here... any charlie hunter fans here? that dude puts on some great live shows." I love that cat! Have CD's but dying to see him live. Very little top-shelf live acts here in the Rainforest. We have to drive a few hours South to Jazz Alley in Seattle for our fix. I think I missed Hunter in Seattle last year. |
