Argggh! It's NUKE-LEE-ER. NUKE-LEE-ER!
Do you think that he knows he pronounces it wrong, but he can't change it now? AHHH!!
|
EHEHEHEEEEEHEE !!!! I thought the same....it`s just the way his brain is wired.
Aurel |
You might have a point. If he changed, it would be an admission of error, something he seems to be incapable of.
|
And that's different from Clinton saying "Y'all" because..........?

Granted, my stomach turns at the thought of Clinton saying anything, though. I'm glad that guy is keeping busy working out with the German dude. Or something. |
I always wince when I hear people (including the "Leader of the Free World") say "Nukilar", but I want to scream at them when they say "reconize" or "orientated".

Well I suppose that depends on what your definiteion of "is" is... :D:D :D :D :D Randy |
That's how DDE said it, and he gave us the Interstate Highway system.
Like so many others, you focus on the wrong (though ego-boosting, in an "I'm soooo much more intelligent...") thing. JP |
LOL - oops, gotta run. Nancy Pelosi's on.
Edit, because I've been thinking about this a bit: Slacker - I support Bush. But his diction leaves something to be desired. Even the blindest of followers should see that, without having to call someone who points it out an egoist. Are you one of those "any criticism is unpatriotic" zombies? Anyway, never mind. I was hoping the thread could be taken in at least a bit of a jovial, lighthearted way. Guess not. |
Some people say "Nukular," other people say, "I did not inhale." and "I never met that woman."
Don't ax me to esplain. -Z-man. |
Cowtown -
Hopefully not a zombie. I don't like eating brains so much. It's not a question of patriotism, but as a W guy, there are plenty of reasons to be critical of Bush. Getting on him for how he speaks is ... I don't know ... too easy? The guy has eloquence issues, I stipulate. I misunderstood you evidently. Nothing to do with patriotism. Seriously. JP |
Ahhh how do U spell Potatoe? or is it Po tot o...Oh I am so confused, which button did you say was the big one...was it the black one or the red one???? Oh Dick can you help me out over here?

Bush is an idiot, what's new? :) |

Clinton lied about an affair he had going on, yet the liberals hailed him a hero! Bush mis-pronounces a word, and they're all over him. Yeah, that's fair.... -Z-man. |
I'm still trying to figure out how to say "California."
"Kalifornia?" "Nucular?" I didn't catch it. I'm used to the accents, I guess. |

edit: Clearly this is all speculation, nothing has been proven, but....it really makes you wonder. Randy |
All I can say is I'd be flubbing up constanly with that amount of public speaking.
I also didn't catch the mispronunciation. |
Jimmy Carter, himself a physicist, pronounced it Nuke-yu-ler. Made me nuts at the time. I'm older now.

I would LOVE to see any of these knit-pickers speak for 90 seconds on a world stage and then see how its torn to shreds by their "peers".
I grew up in the south and have extensive "naw-ledge" and "s'pozure" to the Derelictionary from which many of these words are derived. Believe me, passing judgment on a person based on the mispronounciation of words is shallow. I'm sure someone here can gleefully point out my gramatical errors. BTW, we have a new manager at my work and a couple of months ago he had a meeting with the MRI team. He referred to 'Nuculer Medicine" while speaking. He's new to the diagnostic imaging arena and a good guy. We gave him a heads-up on the text pronunciation. That is about the only time I would correct someone on that word. Heck, I hear Nuc Med Techs say "Nuculer" quite often. |

I'm sorry, it's wrong, and it's such an easy thing to get right, he should get it right. You can say it's shallow, but I say he should get it right. As I said, I support Bush, and I did not intend my original comment to mean anything other than exactly what I said. His pronunciation of this one word annoys me, and it's wrong. It is NOT a commentary on his policies, his wife, or his dog, or Clinton. It is NOT an indication that I'm anti-Bush. It is NOT passing judgement on the man. If it were, would I have voted for him? Geez...I oughtta stay out of this forum. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but it seems like every message with even oblique references to politics turns into WWIII. It was not meant as a political diatribe. :( |
