DIY Porsching and Open-Source?

After seeing the new virus thread in the 911 tech forum, and seeing a bunch of "I run linux, so it didn't affect me" replies, I got curious -- how many of us DIY Porsche types are coincidentally also Linux types?

So I'll make it a poll -- What operating system do you run? If you run several, on several different machines, pick one, or vote several times, it's not like we're electing a president, right?

Err - what happened to Mac OS X? Are we supposed to choose BSD?

Mandrake 9.1 on the main box.
Coyote on the firewall.
BeOS 5.0 on the tinker box.
MacOS X on the AlBook 15 (and from which I am posting).

Also:

1 old laptop running Redhat
1 old laptop running Plan 9 (really...)
IBM z50 boots NetBSD from a WinCE boot loader.
1 old laptop running Win95 so my wife can use her goofy Hallmark Create-a-card program.

I used to run BeOS - best operating system, hands down. What's the development state now? I thought Be was sold.

Be's assets were picked up by Palm, Inc. (maybe PalmOne, now??). The original code has sat idle. :(

There are a few groups trying to create open source code-compatible (maybe even binary-compatible) systems:

http://openbeos.org/
http://www.blueeyedos.com/
http://www.cosmoe.com/

Some of the original Be team members are involved.

YellowTAB has been sort-of keeping BeOS alive: http://www.yellowtab.com/

Edit: forgot about Cosmoe.

I use vectorLinux and mandrake here for my servers but run 2k on my desktop. ohh and pine does wonders for viruses and spam :D

Oops, sorry Mac guys. My bad. Vote BSD, I guess. It's the right kernel, yes?

PC/Mac I don't care. You can put Linux on any of 'em.

I'm a looong time Slackware user, but Debian and Gentoo are both nice, and I teach a course using Fedora Core 1.

My first Linux install was SLS! A bunch of floppies and kernel 0.98, I think.

After that I stuck with Slackware for a long time. Moved on to RedHat and then Mandrake when I didn't want to bother with configuring everything myself.

Mandrake 9.1 runs nicely for me. Eventually I may upgrade to 9.2, but why bother....

I gave up on Winblows when Win2k went into an endless reboot loop for the 3rd time in 2 months. What started it? MSFT patches....
