Happy Groundhog Day!

Sure, many of us are occupied with the Superbowl tomorrow, but please don't forget to honor, observe and celebrate Groundhog Day on monday, Feb. 2. Gather with friends and family, have a picnic, or a snowball fight, or just lay around and do nothing. Whichever way you choose to celebrate, it's fine for this most special of holidays that has little or nothing to do with anything.

Actually, my fifteen seconds (not minutes) of fame comes from the fact both sides of my family were raised in Punxsutawney. I spent many childhood summers there in the 50's and 60's, and the significance of Groundhog Day was impressed upon me, much like being strapped down on an atomic powered fudge-packing machine with the Off switch just out of arms reach. No, it wasn't like that at all. Really.

I was a cute kid, but as I age, I look more and more like the guy on the left.

Ed

Aurel,

No not me, but looks as if it's the same top hat! They might only have one, and it gets passed around for photo ops.

Wish I could be there at sunrise tomorrow for the start of the celebration; it is a real large time! Aurel, you being in NJ, you could probably make it in time if you left soon. Just take I-80 westbound, can't be more than 400-500 miles!

Ed

Happy Groundhog Day, everyone!

this guy was also called Ed, so I thought it could be you..
Do you guys not work on mondays in Georgia ? That sounds like a cool state ! Actually, I crossed it while driving down to Florida two years ago, and the shore looked really nice. So what is the story with the groundhogs ? In New-Jersey, we never see them in February.

I think groundhogs hibernate, but that could be folklore. In any case, the groundhog takes a peek out of his hole on February 2 each year to see if it is time to wake up (early spring) or roll over and go back to bed (six more weeks of winter).

All the groundhogs in Jersey were destroyed by chemical factories or lawyers, I forget which.....

Ed

Oh, yeah, we work on mondays in Ga. North Ga. is pretty nice, South Ga. is, well, different. Think flat land, red clay, and pine trees.

Probably the lawyers....Sued the groundhogs for inaccurate predictions.....Litigation...the next major hazard for the animal kingdom....
