Sam,
The new wife and I went to Aruba for our honeymoon last September. Great place, can't wait to go back. We stayed at the Hyatt. Here are some forums....people post reports about their trips to Aruba. I think Aruba is a nice place to visit, but it is a bit too third world for me. And Aruba is expensive. I paid $14 for a six pack of Heiniken (7 oz bottles). Ouch! Aruba forum 1 Aruba forum 2 Chuck

It's one of the uglier islands that I have been to. It is however a great place to windsurf and I hear that the diving is great. Resorts are pretty nice, but nothing like Maui.
Overall, it a nice place so have fun.

It's not what I'd consider "tropical" but it was a great place to vacation. Always warm, with a slight breeze, barely rains, great beaches. But I did have a 4x4 "incident", and was attacked by wild dogs (no kidding). I'll likely go back there for a vacation. But it is a very small island, so the waters might start "closing in" on you. I guess that's when you hop in a boat??

Hi. Aruba is a desert. The refinerys were built there to put a moat between them and the poor people of oil rich Venezuela, just in case. My wife visited there as a teen when her dad built the big refinery. The ocean side of the house was unwalled, no insects, constant breeze, perfect beach and water, beautiful view. My mom says the resorts are a great place for a short stay. I say hang at the airport on Friday afternoons. You'll figure it out fast.
