O.T. New roomate in garage. Long...

I know this is not Porsche related, so I apologize if it needs to be deleted. My best friend just bought a 2000 viper and is keeping it at my house for 6 months. I get to drive it whenever I like. I live on the west coast, he on the east. Although I'm not a big fan of these cars, it's "kind of" growing on me. I will say this, it is the fastest car I have ever driven. Here's the specs: Engine was rebuilt 1,000 miles ago. Forged pistons, crank-you name it, it's in it. It also has a 'Unichip' in it as well that "The Racers Group" at sears point installed and calibrated. See, there is something in this post about Porsche's. Headers with a corsa 3" exhaust and some weird baffled cat's-not ceramic. Lowered with eibach springs, and re-valved shocks. Stoptec brakes-Damn rotors are huge! Custom half shafts. 2 different alarm systems which is a *****. Huge stereo system. Car is black. Well here's the kicker, it has a paxton supercharger as well, with a 8 lb. boost pully. I never knew this was how you raised or lowered boost on a S.C.(Changing the size of pulleys). Damn thing sounds like a jet engine when it idles. Now the real fun-dynoed at the racers group-730 hp.
This thing is a rocket! I have never felt power that pulls so hard. It is actually scary to drive. First ride my friend gave me. Second to third-around 85 mph, the rear end broke loose. Next thing I know were doing 140 mph. We hit 140 so fast that I was amazed. The previous owner got it up to 185 going to vegas in 5th. He said it had more, but his wife freaked out.
Now remember, this is not my car, so keep the flamming at the min. And, I'm sorry for posting a "Dodge" related post on this board. Other people have posted about their other cars, so what the heck. I will also say this, it is fun to drive around, gets a hell of a lot of attention, but so does tobluforu. This was funny, toblu and this beast are parked side by side in my garage. This guy stops and comments on toblu. Doesn't say a damn thing about the beast. Got to love that!

No flame from me...that sounds like one torquey SOB.

...and have fun with it for as long as you can.

Vipers are substantial machines, just not my style...if I had to go to a US model the new C6 vettes look good.

In the mean time I'm just happy as can be w/ boosted teutonic toys :D

That would be awesome to drive, I'll bet.

As Rick said, enjoy it while you can. :)

A guy who owns a rigging company in town has two of them. I would never go with him for a ride, he's just a little too crazy a driver for me. He talked about the rear tires breaking loose at 80 mph when he gets on it. His are stock and I think they are pushing around 500 hp.

Does it get good gas mileage?

Chris

tobluforu 02-04-2004 12:10 PM

Gets 8 mpg when you get on it. 11 other wise

Coupe or roadster? Never liked the roadsters but the coupes were not too bad. They grew on me with the LeMans success, gives it a good race heritage. Not quite as good as our 911's race heritage though. ;)

That get's better mileage than my XJS Jaguar V12. I sold the thirsty PIG

I'm actually a big fan of the GTS Vipers. Driven by a very good driver, they are very capable cars.

I think they kind of get a bad wrap on there handling, but that is usually by people who haven't seen one driven by anyone other then someone wearing a gold chain around their neck. ;)

Yeah, we need to see it parked next to the 911.

Keep an eye on that right foot...those cars are way too easy to get sideways when the tires are cold.
