Check your headlights!!

I have this 1999 Jeep. I have had it since new. Never blew a headlight, so I never replaced any. But I kept feeling like they weren't working right lately. That and all the HID systems out there are so much brighter than me!

Anyway, I read an article this weekend by Pat Goss ('s staff) in the paper about how headlights eventually go bad after like 3 years.

So I bought two new Sylvania "Cool Blue" headlight and installed them. Wow! I can see again! There was all this crap on the reflector part of my old lights and I don't think the glass was cracked.

The "cool blues" are a disapointment in that I thought they would be more like a cheapo HID-type look, but I can actually see at night.

Just thought I would pass this along, since I don't have any Porsche-related content tonight.

;)

I put in a set of the sylvania silver star headlights last month. They have impressed me so far. Much better visability than the stock lights.

Make sure they are aligned . While they help you see, they can blind the "other guy" (who might just be me....)

hehe, aligning the lights on this car was the hardest that I have done yet. When I said they were much better, I meant an improvemnet, they are not insanely bright. I've seen some blinding HIDs on the road recently.

My understanding of the subject:

The output of any of those trendy bulbs with the colored coatings is actually less than that of a clear bulb with the same specs. You are just seeing a different (limited) part of the spectrum, so it fools you into thinking they are as bright or brighter than a normal bulb of the same wattage. Not to mention, you are usually paying twice or three times as much for that limited output!

I agree. I was under the impresion that the silverstars were a white light...not the trendy HIDs which are quite the blue color

PIAA Superwhites are actuallya very nice bulb. I put a set in the 930 a few years back and am VERY happy with them. More than enough light without being obnoxious.
