Record Speeding Ticket
|
I saw the same thing!! Wow! What's the highest speeding ticket (mph) that folks have gotten? I've never had a speeding ticket but know someone who just got one for doing 120. (don't know what kind of car) She's only 17 and had her license pulled for a year. Ouch! I for one like to go fast, but on a public road? That's what tracks are for.
|
I have a friend who got a speeding ticket for going 145.
|
Any Californians Members of the CHP 11-99 Foundation?
|
I have a friend who was doing 187mph when the V1 went off and was clocked at 168mph as the radar locked on. He was pulled over to the shoulder of the road by the time the officer caught up. He is over 50yrs old and was just given a warning. Age has its privilege and not BSing the officer paid off. He doesnt run that hard anymore, no matter how safe the roadway appears.

Young friend of mine is a cop in the next town over, an enthusiast, runs a BMW 325i in BMWCCA DE events. Told me he'd recently pulled over a 911 Turbo doing 137 on the local four-lane, which is relatively untrafficked. "I yelled at him a lot," he said, "but I didn't write him up. Guy is driving a $100,000 car, he's got an $8,000 Rolex on his wrist, he isn't gonna hire a lawyer and blow me away? Waste of everybody's time."
I like his attitude, particularly because he's also big on not busting anybody for something he'd do himself, like rolling stops...and not a week earlier, he and I--he driving--had been doing 120 in a GT3 that I had on test, on the same highway. Stephan |
11-99 Foundation is a foundation for the families of slain police officers, me thinks. Its rather popular to buy a frame and stick it on your car. Supposed to help you not get pulled over or get you out of a ticket. I have a friend with like 6 of them on his various vehicles. Whether or not they actually work though...

1199 Foundation benefits widows and orphans of California Highway Patrol Officers. Cost: One payment of $1800.00 and you get the 1199 Foundation license plate frame an ID card and a small Highway Patrol Badge. And it will prevent you from getting speeding tickets. |
ticket is based on income?
so what if you make 30K a year and get caught speeding....you get a $5 ticket? I'm sure there are some exceptions to this BS law. |
I was doing a little over 150 (my father's 911 turbo)
I spotted a police car parked way ahead. I got down to 120 before they spotted me. I acted politely and actually got on with the officer. He wrote me up for 99 and 3 points on my licence (this was in the UK). As it was below 100 - no ban. |
This Finnish guy who got the record speeding ticket ($216,900) was going only 50mph in a 25mph zone.
Here in Finland the tickets are based on income, and there is no maximum sum for a ticket. However, there is a minimum which is $145. Logic behind the law is that rich people should have bigger tickets because otherwise the penalty would be pointless in proportion to their wealth. // sk |
I got a ticket for 100 in a 55 one time. And because the cop was in a wonderfull mood that day, he decided to nail me with a reckless driving ticket on top of the speeding ticket. 4 points each or 8 points all together.
Then a buddy of mine got nailed doing 143mph (at this point he was slowing down) in his modded 930. Appearantly the cop wasn't too happy when he down shifted on the off ramp to pull over and shot a 4 foot flame out of his exhaust. He got all 4 of his pba cards ripped apart and had to go to court. His judgement was to have his liscence taken for 2 months (would've been more if he didn't have a lawyer). |
Many years ago 90 Mustang GT Convert....125 in a 45.:(
Living on a high after golfing, crested a hill...State Patrol parked in the median shortly after the crest. I pulled over and parked prior to her even coming out of the median. She very calmly pulled up behind me and said, "I am not even gonna ask if you know how fast you were going." Ticketed for....125 in a 45. Lost my license for 30 days and had to pay around $800 in fines. Lost my 'livin on a high feeling' but, I deserved it. |
137mph eastbond and east of McLean, Texas on I-40 in 1983. No ticket, no nothing, just some counseling. I coulda made it into OK easy without getting caught if I'd speeded up. But that would have been stooopid! :)

No it won't. |
I imagine if it really did work, those things would be all over eBay.
Hey Michael... personal experience with that? |

However, 4 foot flames coming out of the exhaust: one word: cool. :D Fortunately, I've never gotten anything as exotic as some of you here: I think I got a 20 over in a 50 zone (70mph) in PA. -Z-man. |
I was driving cross country from LA to Ohio in a Lotus Esprit. As i was trying to take my jacket off and drive at the same time I saw a Missouri Trooper and couldn't slow down enough to avoid a 85mph ticket. The guy was a comedian and told me I was 50 miles from the state line and 15 minutes from the station. I was to go there directly and pay my fine or I could try to make the state line. He would radio in the "escape" in 20 minutes. When I got to the station the other troopers were grilling dogs and burgers and fed me after I paid.

I grew up in CT, and have always been told they have some of the highest fines for speeding.

I've been pulled over twice (both about 3-5 years ago) for what could/should have been a reckless driving infraction, which, as I understand it is 40 mph over the speed limit in CA.
The first time I was doing 120 down the 101 freeway in a 1986 Toyota Tercel... It was the portion right by city hall, a long downhill stretch to those who might be disbelieving of the physics involved. I had to go to court in LA for the ticket as I was leaving town to move to Boston. Judge nearly threw me in jail and gave me the tongue lashing of a life time: "Mr. Maston, if I ever see you in my courtroom again, I will send you directly to jail. No get out of jail free card. Now get out of my courtroom" Cost me $450 for the ticket. The second time, I was pulled over doing between 120 and 130 on the 10 coming back from Phoenix. Got written up for 95 because the cop had owned the same year/model/color of car I had (Jetta VR6) and he had gotten 3 tickets in the first year of ownership. I had my wife with me, so I think that helped give me a break. Not too expensive this time, $250ish. Don't drive like this anymore, too expensive. JCM |

I'm amazed no tickets were handed out at that drive (as far as I know). / J |
i limit my reckless driving to a little 2 mile long windy street with 25mph turns
never a cop in sight there :-D |

Yes it will. It's worked for me twice. |
That doesn't mean thats why you got out of the ticket. I personally have written tickets to people who have been members and know co workers who have done the same. On the same token I have not written tickets to people who didn't belong. Point is, I wouldn't count on that gettin you out of a ticket.

Motion, only in that I've been the one who wrote the ticket. Personally, Everybody I've ever pulled over with a 11-99 plate has been alittle arrogant. I 've even had a few whip out the fake badge like it was a brass pass and I had no business stopping them. well, they got what they got. I imagine you might get alittle more luck with the CHP, but they will write you depending on the circumstances and I've never pulled over Two oh; I think some people would be surprised how far being polite, honest and alittle humble would go. |

Damn, I didn't know a Tercel could do 120 mph. |
