Gave U boyz a Tip
A few weeks ago when I was talking about MOTorola, someone said, "Well why din't Uous tell us about it?" I then mentioned another company Segway...SEGU. At the time it was trading at $2.70 a share. Well boyz I am happy to report SEGU is now at $3.70 a share. A return of about 37% in @ one month. The move is being traded on heavy volume.

Hi. So what's the next hot tip. I gotta buy a clutch kit, and pay for the rest of the while you're in there. Thanks.

![]() Seems nearly everything is up a bit. I'm having trouble believing that the Seqway is going to be a market leader for long! Last edited by damouth; 02-10-2004 at 08:11 PM.. |

damouth gave the best tip here...compare performance on an investment with the indexes before becoming too pleased. One dirty little secret of the mutual fund industry is that only about 5% of fund managers beat the Wilshire 5000 in a given year. And in case Tabby is wondering, no I didn't read his "tip"...while checking track records, one should read the investment posts he made on the S registry board a few years back...they were "right off"...

Hey wait a minute.....I THOUGHT PWD WAS IGNORING ME????? Does this mean I'm OFF his ignore list???? Oh joyous day, now we can be Buddies!!! Just think TABBY & PWD arm in arm as we go down memory lane....
The only Mutual funds I basically own are in the Retirement Annuties I have. Outside of that I have a few shares of MFS Research Fund. I generally don't like Mutual Funds...U never know when a manager might change, or whats currently in the portfolio, and the fees can be high. I have essentially my own Mutual Fund with 16 to 23 different stocks in it. PWD is right I was telling people to buy stocks after 911. I also think it is late in the day to buy SEGU at the moment. I have made GOOD money on SEGU twice before. Only one person ever listened to me about SEGU, he basically doubled his money back in 1999. I told hi to buy at this price and to sell at that price. He listened. $5 a share is the threshold where brokers and Institutional money will come in.

You want to see a big move, try TASR. Now that's a move worth talking about.

FoMoCo - LOL!!!!
Mutual Funds are for the completely uninformed these days. Why pay some "manager" to add virtually no value - like was said - they can't beat the index anyway. Particularily in the mid and large caps. Index funds are the answer to those tempted to buy mutuals because they "don't have time or inclination" to watch equities. Pick the sector you like and away you go - much lower fees than mutual funds - same implicit risks and returns. The liquidity of most exchange traded index funds makes them slick as **** through a goose. But then I know people that actually pay a full service brokerage to pick and buy mutuals for them - that should almost be illegal! |

Everybody has their own opinion...far be it for me to try to convince anybody about how to invest their own money. Thats not my job. I'm just happy MOT & SEGU are doing what they are doing.

Index funds are nice, but I do not rule out mutual funds as a vehicle for individuals who have neither the time or inclination for market analysis. As a now more-or-less retired financial advisor, I have recommended mutual funds to some folks who want to make periodic investments and let someone else do the analysis.
Purry..Please do yourself a favor. Join the American Association of Individual Investors. They publish an annual guide to investing which is heavy on funds. There are a considerable number of funds that have done quite well, have no load and no 12b-1 charges either. A response I made elsewhere lists T. Rowe Price as one of these. Sadly, I have friends who would NEVER go to a financial advisor, and four years ago had a good nest egg started. Now, quite a few of them are left with nickles on the dollar since they thought they knew how to time the market. The market is a non-sentient beast, run more on emotion than logic. Watch the headlines, watch the market. Watch what kind of news has what kind of result. Try to find the rationale. Give up? A friend of mine who is associated with Edward Jones has a pat answer for new customers: "General Electric". One size fits all.....Ho Hum....

Very interesting your located in Tucson. Thats where my Money manager is located. She works for Wachovia and is located on Sunrise Blvd.
She takes no walkins, and only will take people by referal. Now she has told me that she will only take a new client after a year of talking to them and getting to know each other. She also will only act as a Portfolio Manager with complete discretion as to the investing the money. Before Wachovia and First Union merged she was 1 of only 12 Portfolio Managers that FU had (they had 5500 Brokers) and was the only one who was Bank Trust Certified. She's been in Banking and the Securities industry for over 30 years. She also advises the RNC from time to time.

Hey thanks for the recommend Moneyguy1 - I should not have been quite so outspoken against Mutuals - they do fill a niche. I am a pretty experienced equity/derivative trader myself (own account -not a pro).
But I stand by the statement that the niche for mutuals is like the niche for Chevy Impalas at a race track. If you're just concerned about getting to the finish line and can't be bothered understanding cars or racing - go for it. Just be aware that there are probably much better ways to finish the race - if you take the trouble to match the best possible car to your driving style, skill and budget. The income/royalty trust sector is where I'm heavily weighted these days. I'm there basically as a defensive play, but the sector offers some fabulous income opportunities. I'm uncomfortable with the sustainability of the business model in many areas - but I'll keep cashing 2% or more per month dividend checks out of the energy sector for a while yet. |

It's better to own Disney, the take overee is the better to own, and usually goes up. While the take over company usually goes down, reason it's uncertain how the new aquisition will work out.
BTW: I own DIS stock it went up $3.25 a share yesterday. It's was up about $0.50 a share today. TASR float is 9,000,000 shares....today 19,000,000 shares traded hands. the PE ratio is 171. 52 week low was $1.21, 52 week high is $67.00 which was hit today. It's the flavor of the day.

If you want to see a big movement, eat nothing but shredded wheat for a couple of days. Now THAT'S movement. . . .
