Any modelers out there???

Just thought I'd share a few photos of a model I put together last night.

My wife gave me a 1:600 scale model of the RMS Titanic for Valentines Day.
(I've always been a bit of a Titanic buff)
I was going to put it together the normal way, but it struck me that it'd be awefully neat to build a "present day" representation of the wreck.

Hoo Doogie!

So, I started hacking, melting, cutting, cobbling, and butchering.
Keep in mind I am no professional modeler. But I do like experimenting with new techniques.
I did quite a bit of research on the web and found some photos of the ship as it sits today. I used these as a brief reference when building this one.

So far I only have the bow assembled. As some of you may know... the stern sits about a mile away from the bow and is in terrible shape. It is going to be pretty hard to faithfully recreate the stern as the sides of the hull have virtually "slid off".

But, I'm gonna give it a shot.

Here are a few pics. They are too dark... I'll take some better ones later.

By the way, I found a website by this modeler who assembled a model like I'm trying to do. Except it took him a year, one trip to Woods Hole and god only knows how many hours and cash.

Mine cost $35, and 6 hrs of work so far! :D

I had fun with it.

It's going on my desk at work....
I think it's kind of symbolic of how I feel about my job.

Awsome model!! I tried one like that of a WWII cruiser wreck, I tried to encase it in resin but screwed it up.

Leland Pate 03-12-2004 06:56 PM

Here are a few more photos of the wreck now that I have it laid in BONDO!

THERE IS A USE FOR THIS STUFF AFTER ALL!

The results are mixed so far... it isn't too bad, but not exactly how I wanted it to come out.

Wow..cool.

My modelling only goes to 4x4 remote controls. Your work is impressive.

Are you going to try to make it appear more 'marine'? It still looks a little too clean, like it is 100 years old but all cleaned up.

What 'real' pics are you working to? Looking good so far.
