Tour de France winner found dead...

This guy used to be one of Armstrong's stiffest competitors.

The more cycling minded can correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this this little *****bag that, when Armstrong allowed him to take a stage of the TdF a year ago (b/c Pantani had wiped out, I think, but Lance didn't want that to hand him a stage victory) that Pantani handled it so gracelessly -- made an a$$ of himself.

I wouldn't wish the guy dead for that behavior, but I don't lament the passing of such a classless jacka$$.

Rumor had it Panatini received plastic surgery to make him more aerodynamic. Old photos show that this boy had some ears, not to mention a fairly large schnauz. He wasn't called "the elephant" for nothing.

Ridiculing the dead....

...a national pastime?

OK, Jurgen, why not write your own obit now, to be published here at a (much later, hopefully) date, and thereby avoiding all that spinning in the grave from embarrasment?

Hmmm.... a new thread topic?

In sports, it's called "harsh" as in "harsh, but true."

Wow, that is terrible, I can never get used to how quickly people can come and go.

"I'm devastated, it's a tragedy of enormous proportions for the entire cycling world" -Mario Cipollini

I agree Mario. Bummer.

About the EPO, also in the story -

"Also Saturday, 21-year-old Belgian cyclist Johan Sermon was found dead from apparent heart failure, according to Belgian news reports. He was an under-23 rider with the Daikin team."

Call me the skeptic, but I think almost every rider on the TdF, including U.S. riders, are on some sort of "enhancement". We're talking pro sports here, just like MLB, NFL, etc... Bicycle racing is big big business everywhere except in the U.S.
