London, 21-22 Feb

I will be in London the weekend of the 21st. Any UK Pelicans care to join me for a pint? I've never spent any significant time in the city before, so I am open to suggestions as to where to go/things to do.

Chris, I recommend that you also post on the (Europe) regional forum to get additional exposure.

Damn,

Not in town that week end otherwise we could have met up.

But what do yo want to do when there?

Museums, shows, Buckingham Place, Trendy cultre?

Its all there.

Loads to see.

Where will you be based?

There are a few great tours you can do on the River, you can go on the London Eye...highly recommended to get the best view.

Go to the Tate Modern ad see some pretty great Modern Art, cross the Millenium Foot Bridge and then you're in the City, see St.Paul's, the Bank of England, go see the Lloyds Building, the Swiss Re Tower and then head to the West End for supper in Covent Garden and a show.

Or go to the Tower of London, the over tower Bridge and see City Hall, the Design Museum etc.

Could stay Central see Trafalgar Square and hte National Gallery, the Mall, Buckingham Palce, changing of the Guard, the Hosues of Parliament etc....

Or be 'trendy', go to Camden Lock Market or Brick Lane...

There's a pretty good Science Museum too, and its free.

Give ua clue as to the type of stuff you want to do.....

Thanks very much for the list.

I'll be staying near the Thames and the Horse Guards. I don't need to do "touristy" things... I'd like to just soak up some London atmosphere and maybe meet a fellow Porsche owner. I'm in my early thirties if that makes a difference in your suggestions.

Sounds like you need to look into a couple of things then.

A morning stroll aorund Trafalgar Square, wander to the National Gallery, followed by a mouch up the Strand towards Convent Garden....for lunch.

Perhaps a look a China Town etc then to the British Museum in Bloomsbury followed by a show in the West End (back around Covent Garden)

Or an Underground ride up to Camden Town, go to Camden Lock Market, the walk along the canal to Regents Park back towards town.

The flower Market a Brick lane is a good alternative for London feeling, or a walk along City Road for Sundat Brunch at the Eagle.....

Do you have a map of London? Try http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ and type in the name of the street you will be staying on. There's a lot of information there.

I'd also say post a messge on the DDK Forum, quite a few Londoners on there...http://www.ddk-online.com/

Holy Christ! How did he die? Sounds like you are trying to set a land speed record for visiting cities, is it business? The last time I went to Europe, I was there 2 weeks and never left Paris. Just chillin', my idea of a good trip.

not sure how he died, but the crew knew he was in bad shape... we were over newfoundland at 37000ft and didn't try to divert, so the poor sap was doomed.

yeah, unfortunately this is a business trip. i have 5 more flights left before landing in l.a.
the worst part is that i haven't been able to do any driving over here yet. i'm going to try to grab the keys from my colleague just before we hit the autobahn.
