Pink Snow again!
Third attempt to post...
We arrived at our weekend cottage yesterday evening to find the snow ploughs had done their usual performance of tearing up tarmac, damaging parked cars, blocking our driveway and similar socially valuabvle functions. And then joy of joys the heating has failed and we have at least one cracked pipe. Solution: Go and camp at that den of iniquity known as Milu's country estate or weekend shack. This morning I wake look out of the window and the damn snow has turned pink, it is totally gross! Milu and my husband Armando have gone into town for essential supplies and to gee up the plumbers at my place a bit, there's a girl hogging the best bathroom so I'm having a play with Milu's digital camera, I'm not sure how well the image reproduces but the reality is horrid. It's also supposed to be corrosive! ![]()

A guess:
Fine sand is brought over by wind from the Sahara. It snowed again and the sand was absorbed from the air and carried down. I had a white car turn pink from sand in rainwater a few years ago. It was a major cleaning job to fix. My first reaction this morning was that my eyesight had gone as it also reflects less light. It also doen't inspire snowball fights or snowman building. Yech!

When I was in Colorado (Keystone) during the summer there was still snow on the high peaks, and some pink patches. I was told that it was some kind of radioactive stuff (no kidding) ...

My mom is currently in Nice, France. All the cars there are a shade of red from the Saharan dust. She also told me that my grandmother's 5th story balcony has thick layer of mud from the sand laden rain.

I lived in Germany for a number of years and I remember the car being covered with red sand on several occasions. I was told at the time that it was from the Sahara. Also, having been in a Sahara sand sorm first-hand in Morrocco I find it completely believable that some of that crap would end up being blown over to Europe.
But...the sand wasn't so bad, it was the Chernobyl fallout that really sucked ![]() |
