Some of the un-informed think the Bible is a "Fairy Tale".

Real "cutting edge Ark-iolagy" in the style of the Discovery channel.
![]() I'm not going to get into discussions on the merits of the bible as a historical document.

I'd make a serious reply to this one, but I seem to have left my 10 foot pole at home, today...

The great difficulty in trying to convince normal people of the historical nature of the bible is people like this, who take some elements of scripture and combine them with various lies to dilute what is otherwise true, thus making a mockery of it. By claiming, with certainty, that you've found the hill the Christ was crucified on places you on the same level as the guy who promises eternal life by wearing magnets on your body's magnetic poles. Very frustrating, sometimes...

Did you see the documentation on Pharoah's chariots Dan?
Evidence of the real thing. No one has disproved his findings in the Red Sea. He followed the Bible and it lead him right to them. Did you read about what King Solomon did at the Red Sea Crossing? Pretty amazing huh? If you have substantiated evidence that the sight that Ron Wyatt documents as the Red Sea crossing is not put it up. I will take a look. Thanks Dan? Benson ![]()

Ron Wyatt is one of several famous people who make impossible claims about having found biblical artifacts. I will not say that the bible is untrue, or that people have not followed the biblical text (or other historical texts) to make significant archaeological discoveries. However, Ron Wyatt is not such a person. I knew when the page first came up immediately that Mr. Wyatt was off-kilter because he claimed to have found the Ark of the Covenant -- a truly preposterous notion.
The people at Answers in Genesis have done a much better job of dealing with Ron Wyatt than I could summarize, so : http://www.answersingenesis.org/Docs/1154.asp Additionally, as a summary of Ron Wyatt's work (and his accomplice, Mr. Gray), you should perhaps read http://www.answersingenesis.org/creation/v21/i2/ark.asp -- read the whole article, it's quite good. I do appreciate your attitude and beliefs -- the bible is, in fact, a historical document, and does, in fact, describe real events that happened to real people, at real places. However, it is always wise to be cautious of anyone who claims to have finally found some holy item, but who claims that his discovery won't be published in any major journal, either secular or religious. Dan

I really didn't _mean_ to totally kill this thread. Just wanted to add some objective fact to the discussion. Are you alright, Benson? Isabo, no comments on the historical nature of the Bible?

Spot the quotation:
"One man's religion is another man's belly laugh" I lurk on a few forums that get into religious debates and they are often a hoot, believe as you will but don't preach or try to force them on me and I'll only laugh in private ![]()

Isa, you and I are going to Hell.
![]() My favorite class in university (I was an engineering student) was "Indian Buddhism". Fascinating stuff.

"Indian Buddhism?" Sounds like fun. How did an engineering student have the misfortune to end up in that one?

Buddhism: Interesting one. A bit like an oriental version of the C of E? ie there's space for you in there and you can fit in regardless of your beliefs?

Whoops! I think I'm on that downward spiral heading for hell again! No more wine with lunch!

Isabo, I don't think it matters whether or not the religious fundamentalists say you're going to hell. If there is a God-like entity who makes these decisions, I suppose his (her?) input would make a difference, though.
BTW, does coffee count as a religion? If I own a $70 espresso machine, does that make me a heathen? Do I go to coffee hell for drinking drip coffee? ![]() Dan

My uni has a "liberal arts" requirement for engineering students, presumably so we become better-rounded individuals. I fulfilled it mostly with linguistics courses but the Buddhism class caught my eye so I gave it a shot. I enjoyed it.

Hello Dan!
In regards to Ron Wyatt I was refering to the Chariot Wheels he found in the Red Sea. They are really there. Your right about the Bible being a factual book of History. Its known in Israel that they have the Ark of the Covenant under heavily armed guard somewhere in the caves and tunnels of King Hezikiah I believe. It is sealed behind concrete and bars. Because of an earthquake or something a couple men clmbed in through a small opening not to long ago. I forgot exactly what happened to them when they did this but I will check into it and post up my findings. Benson ![]()

While the LAH courses were a great eye opener about the criminal actions of our government (and others) in that area for over 200 years the STH courses were a great way to round out my great interest in the subject. I guess its appropriate that I would mention it on this thread since the march of science and technology has often been attacked and thwarted by the institution of religion and its fear of being debunked. The lack of emoticons being used by Benson makes it hard for me to tell if he is kidding around about this stuff or if he is as deluded as the authors of his posted sources. |
