Outdoor video solution?
Hi all.
I've recently opened a new branch of my real estate agency in a nearby town. The office is located in a very busy strip mall, dead across from a Dunkin' Donuts that is constantly busy. The drive thru window lines cars up so that they face our front door as they come around. My associate had an idea, to set up a video monitor and play slide shows of our property listings -- where the "donut" traffic and other mall traffic will see them. Problem is, we have no front window space -- only a door. There's plenty of room above the door to mount a flat screen, and this would actually be an ideal spot for visibility purposes. HOWEVER, I've talked to my sign company, local electronics stores, etc., and nobody seems to know how I can get this done. I can't mount a typical plasma monitor b/c this is outside and exposed to elements -- unless some kind of protective case is used. Also, I need to be wary of vandalism and theft. Any thoughts? TIA. |
Hmm, What is used in NYC? I was there last night and surprised at the number of outdoor "TV" displays. Perhaps LED?

Unless set into the building I'd be concerned about vandalism as well.

Rick,
This is just the kind of thing I'm looking for, except I'll need something at least 40". I have a message into the company, but am concerned that they are in the Netherlands. With luck, I'll find a domestic competitor...but haven't located one yet. Anyone? Thanks, Mike |
It's a wall. Cut a hole in it, mount some glass and install it inside, above the door? Otherwise build something like RickM posted?
Good idea though. Do you have a website of your properties. Let's check it out? |
on the corner of mission and division in san fran, they have a LED sign that gets pretty good graphics at a distance. i understand it was damn expensive though (half a mil). let me know if you want more info. i can shoot a picture of it. i would do the window and plasma screen thing. what are all those people doing eating all those donuts?

Rob, wall is brick and this is leased space, so reluctant to do heavy cutting. Plan on occupying the space for only a year or two, then will find a more permanent home, so don't want to do the landlord too many favors!! (Before the lease, looked to buy a permanent spot but nothing suitable available at moment). My website is www.EdsonGroup.com
Whoa unfixed, half mil is out of the question, was thinking more like 3-5K. But thanks for the offer for the pic. They eat the donuts, yes they do. I see the local police cruiser driving through quite a bit -- always makes me chuckle. |
hey what about just a lighted marquis? you can just go out and put up "highlights" of the week! you can get any printshop to print up transparencies. once a week you go out, change out the listing. i bet people will see the pretty colors in their sugared up haze and come in just to see what is up. once through the door, 25% of the battle is won! that is when you hit them with your charisma!
"hey baby! howyoudoin?" |
Mabye a blank white wall/screen and a slideshow/powerpoint projector in a sealed locked box with on side plexi-glass?
Ask around discretely about how strict the commision that regulates billboard advertising is though. That money could be wasted due to some artical blah-blah-blah line. |
What about one of those scrolling marquee LED light setups?
