Karmann Ghia info wanted
Does anyone have any experience with Karmann Ghia's? I really like the look of them as well as the history.
How expensive/difficult is it to find parts? Is this a good possibility for a second car for a college student or is this more of a collector's car? It seems like rust is the biggest issue. Id like to get my hands on one this summer if i can any input?

Had a friend buy one a few years back -- loved it. Engine stuff seemed pretty easy to come by -- it's just a VW. Body bits, trim parts, etc., were more difficult, but it seemed like he didn't struggle too hard finding repros to keep stuff in shape. If it's reasonably well sorted, it ought to be comparable with a VW Bug from the same time period.

I've restored one, once you get the body off the chassis it's essentially a VW bug. Tremendously easy to work on, although body work is more challenging than with a bug. A lot less "bolt on" body panels than the bug, so body repair means knowing how to weld.
Are you looking to buy one to restore or a turn key car?
