I read something the other day about the realistic size of a "suitcase" bomb. It'd be one damn big suitcase, weighing at least 160 lbs -- but, frankly, our border security is such that you could smuggle a supertanker into Wichita. JP |
So who imagined that they would be able to secure Irak while we are not even able to secure our borders ? Something smells like roten fish here...Paul Wolfowitz got it all wrong. I don`t feel like the war on terror is going anywhere. Just like the war on drugs. Actually, I read an interesting *conspiracy theory* lately: Afghanistan would have been invaded mostly to take control of its drug exports, the revenue of which can be used to finance the war in Iraq. Makes sense, sort of

As long as we have politicians that encourage them daily...The terrorists and radical Iraqis will continue to kill our soldiers. They don't miss the references to Vietnam. They remember how successful Hanoi Bill and Jane were.

Ship a container from say...... Jakarta, Indonesia (no Islamic jihadists there!) to Pasadena, California.
Install a dirty (or clean for that matter, excuse the pun) atomic device in it set to explode at 500 feet MSL. It will clear in Los Angeles or Long Beach, and will detonate on the 710 just east of downtown, where the elevation rises above the 500' trigger for the first time. Prevailing winds will keep all of Southern California and Southern Nevada uninhabitable for 35 years. Factor that into the economy of the next administration if this administration doesn't keep that from happening. |
Here's one that's even easier:
Rush hour traffic is almost all day long in L.A., and at that time, is mostly at a stand still. What's to prevent a couple dozen terrorist with automatic weapons from walking up an on ramp and opening fire on motorists with nowhere to go or hide? It'll be like shooting fish in a barrel. |

so... o'neil and clark wrote their books, lying and distorting the facts, just for a buck? those guys don't need the money. richard clark apologized for failing the american people. until you folks have READ the books, put a sock in it! bush's spinners want to imply "well, clinton blew it too"? so what are they trying to say? that they are no worse or just as? there is no way you can convince me dubbya (dorkya)wasn't having wet dreams with regards to removing saddam. saddly, american personal are dying and the body count will continue at a ever increasing rate. military hospitals are full of horribly injured sevice personel. when "5 soldiers were injured today" do you think they got splinters? how about an arm and leg count? dorkya's foreign policy would be more effective if he just kept his big trap shut. this is not a pro- democrat/ kerry rant. dorkya's cam-pain is right up there with a sponge bob square pants cartoon. he is just as ineffective as a president as he was as a business man. my youngest son is in the marines and hopefully he will not deploy. for those of you who think the war in iraq is a just cause, please incourage you children to sign up today!! or better yet enlist youselves.

O'Neil had nothing to do with counterterrorism or national security.....The fact that the folks involved in that business did not brief him on their efforts does not in any way indicate their failure to take appropriate action. He and Clarke both left the administration...not because they did not approve of the President's handling of the terrorist threat, but rather because their lack of effectiveness.
Why would you think that Clarke did not need the money? The point is not that Clinton blew it, but that everyone did. According to Clarke himself....if everyone had followed even his most minute suggestions...911 could not have been prevented. Dick Clarke rightfully apologized for failing the nation...if anyone failed, he did. He was in charge of counterterrorism for almost a decade, 911 happened on his watch and then he got rich off a book describing that failure and trying to pass his blame to others. The president's foreign policy is among the most successful in this nation's history. Sounds like your son is a patriot...apparently he supports the President and the defense of our country. He did, after all, volunteer. It seems to me that you would honor his service. My children have "signed up" and I spent 26 years serving....How long did you serve? |

Just getting Pakistan to join us in the war on terrorism far exceeds any foreign policy achievements of the Clinton years. Getting Libya to voluntarily give up their WMDs was certainly better than helping both Korea and China improve their nuclear capabilities as the previous administration did.

Bush had nothing to do with Libya trying to fit into the glodal mainstream, it was their fearless leaders son. Their economy is in shambles so they have to change the way they relate to the rest of the whole.
Clinton atleast handled the Bosnia mess fairly well, Bush has botched Afghanistan as its now in revolt. Bush's Foreign Policy is "My way or the highway" and the rest of the world is letting him sink or swim. Notice how the UN is coming to help in Iraq? Ha! We are out of soldiers now with GIs getting their service time extented again. Rotation will be posponed says Rumsfeld until things are sorted out. When is that? Next year? Geoff |

Back on the subject at hand, it didn't look like Rice's anti-climactic testimony did much to dispel Clarke's allegations.
Rice confirmed that the August 6, 2001, President's Daily Brief (PDB), which the White House had steadfastly refused to release to either the Commission of the public, was titled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States.'' She added that the PDB included information on the FBI field offices pursuing "70 full-field investigations" of Al Qaeda cells in the United States. "I don't remember the Al Qaeda cells as being something that we were told we needed to do something about," Rice testified to the Commission. I would assume as national security advisor she should be the one to tell other people how to act on this info, not the other way around. It was interesting that CR initially tried to claim that "It did not warn of attacks inside the United States, It was historical information based on old reporting." Later, however, Bob Kerrey revealed that the memo told the president "that the FBI indicates patterns of suspicious activity in the United States consistent with preparations for hijacking." And to think that bush, rice and the rest of his administration are still trying to claim that they had no idea that something like 9/11 could occur at the same time that people in their administration stopped flying on commercial air liners in the days and weeks approaching 9/11. Whats worse that this bold faced and dispicable lie is the fact that all the bush worshipers rather believe this BS than the facts. Faced with additional questions about this and other discrepencies with the bush administration's web of lies rice just gave a lot of "I don't recall"s and "I don't remember"s as to avoid perjury charges if more documentation revealing her administration's lies are released. If synchronized lying was an olympic sport bush and his sychophants could win a gold medal. If shrub manages to win or steal another election I think it will be prime time to have another impeachment hearing for something a bit more serious than a president lying about getting a blow job. |
Can you frickin' imagine if a Democrat was in office and the exact same set of circumstances was happening w/ the N.S.A., the memos/PDBs, the intel failures, etc..?? Every Republican on this board and in the country would want their ass on a platter! Forget impeachment, they would form a lynching party w/ Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity the head Clan members. Fer chrisakes, people, WTF is it gonna take for you??

I guess Clinton/Gores got out just in time, then.
Not to mention, Dick Clarke would not have had a scapegoat. |

If that post you are referring was the least bit accurate..you might have a point. It was not. Clearly the person that did that analysis either did not listen/watch the questioning or is intentionally distorting it. |
