Ebay gripe - bid cancelled in last hour

I was bidding on some early 911 seats....I was most interested in the hardware. The bid was $30 for the pair. In the last hour of the auction my bid was canceled because "The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale."

What's up with that?

I guess he wasnt gettin the price he expected to get?? A big gripe of mine is "reserve not met" ., if you want a certain amount for something, start the bid at that price or at least close to it!!

Welcome to the club, It happens all the time. It happened to me last week on a aluminum pressure plate I wanted to snag for $50.

He probably worked out a deal with someone on the side and sold them, then cancelled the item. I do it all the time with things I'm bidding on. Sorry

Oh well I suppose. I did fear that if I won the seller would make up the shortage by charging $100 for shipping or something...

I'm advertisiing a car for sale on EBAY now. I placed a qualifier stating that the car is for sale locally and bids may be cancelled.

I thought about listing the car for what I would take for it but that takes out all the auctions excitement. I stated the car at $100 with no reserve and already have 9 bids.

I have been stung by items being pulled too, and it sucks. If it is going to happen to me, well I suppose I have the right to make it happen to others.

Its considered legitimate to end an auction if you sell it on the side in the meantime. At least you didn't pay for something and not get it.

What you need to do is sell to someone who pays in a check thats too big, cause his friend owes him money, and then send him the difference. Yeah.

For the most part I'll only cancel an auction if there are no bids on it. There can be exceptions though.

I don't bid on auctions where they say they might pull it for local sale - why waste my time? I think it's unfair (and suspicious) when someone doesn't state that and pulls the item just because it didn't go as high as they'd hoped.

As for people cutting side deals: I don't, but I don't feel bad when they get taken either. I won an auction on a Sony laptop a while back and after the auction ended I received 7 e-mails from different people. The guy had cut side deals with all of them - "Wire me $1500 and when I get the money I'll end the auction and send the laptop." Once he got the money, he stopped responding to their e-mails and the auction continued. They had no recourse through eBay. Collectively, $10,500 for a single laptop. I forwarded the e-mails to eBay on their behalf and they closed his account, but that was small consolation I'm sure.
