civic owners?

looking to put brakes on the front of my 97 civic comuter car. I took the front wheel off yesterday and it appeared i had to actually unbolt the caliper and rotate it off the rotor. anyone here done brakes on a civic and can shed so light?

thanx

Maybe I'm missing the point, but all cars (with the exception of P-cars) have to have at least one bolt removed and the other losened so you can rotate the caliper off of the rotor. I leave the top so it rotates up. If your civic is like my old Accord, the back pistons have a slot. You have to turn it with a specail tool (although I used an L bracket screwed to a block of wood). The fronts just push in with a large C-clamp. But, push them in slowly so you don't blow seals. It's also a good idea to use Silicone Spray on the piston seals so there's no chance of tearing them.

The Accords also have a big time corrosion issue with the guide pins. Not sure if it's a problem on the Civic.

piece of cake toby. just take off the two bolts and pop the caliper off. then it is pretty straight forward from there. i was actually suprised to see the pads just pull out of our 911 calipers. dont let the caliper hang from the brake line. then a c-clamp will be your best friend...

When you finish the brake job, install a 4" outlet muffler and a big wing to celebrate!

funny you should mention that ed,,, i put a trader joes split pea soup can on the stock muffler tip on my old comuter civic. not this one though, its actually a pretty nice car, so I will leave it stock as a rock....

thing is its really not a "car" in the sense of a car, it's really more of a tool to get to work. i go 40 miles each way and my truck was costing 250 a month here with gas at 2.05 a gallon. not to metion the mileage on the big meat tires and drivetrain. i was looking for something to lessen gas cost and save the truck for truck stuff.

chili thanks for your insite. what you said is kinda what i opened with, and what i was thinking. in fact i am going to be setting my clocks ahead this weekend, any hints there that might make my going smoother??
