Pop/adware blocker

I have "ad ware" on my computer and it is driving me nuts.

I installed "Ad-aware 6.0" http://lavasoft.element5.com and that worked a couple months ago but it seems as if the pop advertisers have come up with a "work around."

Everytime I go to a new site one or more ads pop up on the screen. When I go to ebay I get an ad for "U-bid" so I don't think the pop ups are coming from the sites I go to.

Any thoughts on how I can get this monkey off my back???

Thx.

Update ad-aware. Im pretty sure they have patches availble. everytime mine start getting bad, i just run the scan and it cleans everything up.

Thanks for the link. I downloaded "Spy Bot Search and Destroy" and installed the latest update.

I had all kinds of ad ware programs running in the background!

After wiping them out and rebooting that seemed to do the trick.

I recommend using both spybot and adware together - sometimes, one catches something the other missed. If you use Internet Explorer to surf, you probably want teh Google TOolbar to block popups there as well.

Already mentioned, but you need to get updates for Ad-Aware regularly. I swear by this software. I visited the parents a few days ago, their laptop was in a sad state. They had all kinds of pop-up blockers and "cookie defenders" and whatnot. I deleted them all and promptly installed adaware. Right away it found 300 objects that the other software missed. Great stuff. Just keep up with the updates.

Try advant as your browser.

Get the google tool bar, it has a great popup blocker on it.

I just downloaded the ad aware...found over 100 objects in my PC..Thanks

Is Ad Aware like Spy Sweeper?...which is subscription based. After the trial period it bugs the crap out of you to subscribe....almost as bad a virus itself.

rammstein 04-06-2004 04:14 PM

nope- they give you scanning ability for free. Where they hope to score $ is when you pay for the ability to have a real-time monitor to keep junk off your computer in the first place.
