Mike's idea of a modern 911
I'm bored so please, tell me what you think of my idea and be brutal.
2600 lbs or less. 2.6L turbo or 3.0 NA version. 290 hp out of the NA, or 300 hp to start in the 2.6 (high redlines on both versions). The same interior concept as the new 997, basically a retro new look of the old 5 round gauges. No cup holders or stereo. Hips and rear end look of a 993. Front end of the 997 (i like the new headlights). Wheels made by BBS. No power steering. No ABS. No PSM. With a factory option roll cage. EDIT: And yes i like watercooling and 4 valves per head too. |
Sounds sweet - I would love to see that car - I wonder if someone can photoshop it together - I know it would be difficult.
|
Boxster, w/ the 3.6l GT3 engine & brakes. Power nothing. No drink holders thin carpet and minimal removable sound insulation, proper sporting seats. Only option, radio delete.
|
Am I the only one who misses the old headlights? Yes, the round 997 lights are an improvement, but they are too sloped back. Too aerodynamic. They need to stand up, staring down the roadway. The stark, upright headlights mounted in big front fenders that sit above a downswept hood. Now that's the look I love!
|
I'm with you, Moses. Actually I like the current 996 headlights (post-Turbo) better than the 997 lights. And the Boxster lights just suck.
Actually, Boxsters in general just suck. :P |

This 997 doesnt really do much for me. I mean...its good and all and probably kicks ass when you see it in person...but its too close to the 996 imo. |

Sonic dB,
Did you ever straighten out that problem you had with your power window switch? |
For the cost of the modern, retro 911, could you not build the ultimate streetcar? Or, do you think the 74-89 chassis is obsolete?
|
Good point. I'd build a 934 replica before buying a new 911. Even a retro 911.
|
Imagine the insurance costs on a new 997. Better to buy older and season to your tastes.
|
I agree with Bill.
From the first time I saw the "new" Boxster, I wanted to gut one completely, throw away the top, and do a 3.6 transplant for a modern day Spyder/type street car. |
Just a reminder, this is totally hypothetical, a no stress related dream of what you think should be porsche's leading sports car, that's all. Don't worry about the other crap like insurance, just get in touch with you artistic/automotive side and feel free to share your idea.
