Value of an NSU motorcycle

Last night, someone was cleaning out their garage, and gave my father an NSU motorcycle. It's pretty beat up, but it's mostly complete.

Does anyone have any idea what this might be worth? There's only one NSU on eBay, and it was an earlier model than the one we have.

Thanks.

I don't know right off. Early 50s I think, I'm not sure on the model. If you're interested, shoot me an e-mail at stevew@creighton.edu and I'll e-mail some pics.

I just called my dad. It's a 1956 NSU Max. It has all the original parts except the seat.

Not a bad bike in the first half of this century. Not much support for it here in the States, but still a good following for it in Germany. And don't confuse it with the Japanese NSU car, the NSU motorcycle is all German!

Steve, What I meant with my sarcastic post was that somewhere out there is a guy that would kill for that bike.

Try searching for a newsgroup, or discussion group on NSU.

Maybe even their successor would be interested.

Well, I've seen asking prices of $1k for a parts/resto bike and one that seems to be pieced together and modified. Then $8k asking price for a restored '58.

A quick search found a UK dealer with some '55 and '57 comps (i.e. a basic Max) between 1400 and 2200 Euros, so not a lot of value in dollars for a rough, but (almost) complete example.

As noted above, probably even less here, given their relative rarity and lack of support on this side of the Atlantic.

Good luck,
Tim
