chris rock special
that was dam funny stuff. are you married and miserable, or single and lonely? he talks about how african americans will put rims on anything. he talks about his toaster having a set of 21's, and how the kids are hungry but pops is putting rims on the hoopty.
dam funny a hour and a half... |
"If Bill Gates woke up tomorrow with Oprah's money, he'd jump off a building". Good stuff.
|
actually, I think Dave Chapelle is a lot funnier than Rock. If you get Comedy Central, I think that is the home of the best shows on TV right now:
The Daily Show Insomniac Chapelle Show South Park I wouldn't mind a few back episodes of Reno 911, and I wish Cartoon Network had more of Space Ghost Coast to Coast...now that is one of the funniest shows I've *ever* seen. |
i would have to agree on the comedy central deal. i watch the open of the daily show pretty much nightly for my national news. chapell is dam funny too. i really liked the recent "true hollywood stories" by charlie murphy. he really does look like his brother eddie if you look close. just recently got into south park, and now i get what all the craze has been. i also like tough crowd.
|
I checked out Chapelle the other night for the first time, and he was just amazingly, shockingly, funny. He's so abrasive on the outside that you think that's all there is...until you sit through a show.
His bit about the blind black guy who doesn't know he's not white, and who joins the KKK, is just outstanding. It managed to do a little social commentary without making you want to change channels. Classic. |
Tough Crowd is really hit or miss...depends how the guests are. I've never been a huge South Park fan, but whenever I watch it I laugh out loud. The recent show about "The Passion" was hysterical.
With the Daily Show, I miss Steve Carell (although he is on occasionally). A year or two back when he and Colbert were on regularly the bits were insanely funny...especially Steve v. Steve. And their deadpan interview stories out in the field just kill me most of the time. I think Insomniac is my favorite these days though... |
I looked forward to the show....he can make me laugh to the point of tears in my eyes...but I didn't think his material was up to the task this time.
Also, he had some dental work done since the last time I saw him, and for me, somehow, a perfect smile takes the edge off of a good punch-line. I will forever miss that gap in his teeth when he sneers "Cracker!" Ed |
Chris Rock did forty minutes of dynamite standup in his HBO special. Too bad the show was ninety minutes long. The guy works hard, though.
|
Chapelle's Show is funny as hell. He does a great job of poking fun at the crackers and the bruthas. That guy is a genius!
|
"The Passion" South Park episode w/ Cartman leading the crowd down the road had me laughing so hard I could barely manage to say "Oh my God" I was so out of breath.

The show on HBO was basically his stand up that he did when I saw him here in town. To tell you the truth, not his best effort. The last two specials were much more memorable to me. However, the bit about his job as a father of two daughters was "keepin them off the pole" was really funny. I thought by the time he did the TV version of this show, the jokes would be more polished. The political jokes were just not funny. Political humor award for standup goes to Bill Maher (and that is coming from a tried and true Republican). Anyway, Rock is still funny and always is worth the time to watch him.
