I haven't heard of steel cut oats before. So they are just oats cut up a bit? I make a porridge with lightly rolled oats (fairly intact) and muesli as my jesture to good health.

Ever tried that Kashi stuff? It's "cereal," but you could use it as steel wool if you could get all the twigs out first. My wife loves it.

steel cut oats are the oats in the form prior to rolling into flat pieces. rolled oats. like quaker oats are rolled. steel cut retain texture and lo and behold a nutty flavor.

i tried that kashi stuff, that is way too leafy and twiggy for me. cowtown, your wife sounds healthy!

Try the Kashi Go-Lean Crunch it is by far the BEST cereal I have ever tried. Not the regular Kashi, but the Crunch! Better than Cocoa Pebbles, Cheerios, Special K, Sugar Smacks, etc...

It has the just the right amount of sweetness to forget what you are eating, and enough punch to blow out your colon.

The Kashi Medley is ok as well, enough diff textures and flavors to be interesting, along with rasins.

a good hearty salad keeps me like a clock. the minute i get out of the F'ing shower it hits. i drop the kids at the pool and hop back in the shower. i considered a bidet in my current bathroom remodel, but it was that or the tv due to space constraints. i wired the satilite to the place before i re-sheetrocked last weekend.

DooD -- that was WAAAAAAY more information than I needed

I like the McCann's Irish (steel cut) Oatmeal, but the real deal takes a half hour to cook, so is a very infrequent thing for me.

Most of my mornings are about 20 minutes from bed - shower - dress - coffee in travel mug - on the road. Don't usually eat until 12:30 at least.

I've had a can of McCann's in my cupboard for about three years. In that time, I still haven't had the half-hour to cook it up. I should try it though. With brown sugar, some butter and bananas. Yuuummmm...

From what i've heard ,I believe that each oat is individually cut by hand.

Hand-cut oats, hand-rolled sushi. I don't like a lot of "hands" in my food.

Cliff, I though that I might get a reaction from you on my pin head oatmeal post. Then I though you might just think that I was a smart ass. Pin head oat meal is for real. In this part of the country it is used to make geta. I make pin head oat meal in a crock pot and it is great. I'm not sure if you can get this oat meal in S.F. If you would like to try pin head oat meal send me a PM. Best Randy
