I just took the time to read this and for a moment I thought I had clicked on the PARF forum by accident...

Come on guys clean it up! - I actually thought the original post presented an interesting question but instead it's just degraded into name calling and personal attacks.

I avoid PARF for that very reason

The root cause remains the same. They are terrorists because terrorism has proved very effective. We constantly make concessions and desert allies when pressured by terrorism. Moderate voices are silenced by terrorism. Even when we capture them, we pamper them a few years and release them.

Unfortunately for the civilized world, terrorism works. As long as we give in to it instead of eradicating it, terrorism will always be a preferred tool of our enemies.

As a consequence, leaving them alone is not an option, and it almost looks like a happy coincidence that they are so threatening. But now, imagine what would happen if they spontaneously decided without any outside help to adopt all western values, democracy, abandon terrorism, and practice free trade of their oil, selling to the Japanese in Yens, to the Europeans in Euros, to the Chinese in Yuans and to the Americans in dollars. Would that be a satisfactory outcome to all of you ?

Which is also the answer: keep them fighting themselves and they won't have time to attack anyone else.

Although a bit of a departure from the thread theme, sammyg2's statement has credence when applied to groups such as 'boko haram' & 'is' or 'isis' whose sole intent seems to be nothing more than the butchering of as many innocents as they see fit.

Face it, the only way to deal with terrorists is to capitulate totally or destroy them. They will keep using terrorism as long as it is a viable tool to achieve their desired endpoint. If you give them everything they ask for today...it will not be long until they are back for more, using the same tools that got them their initial desired outcome. When your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. People who have no real problem with blowing up women and children to achieve their "goals" cannot be fixed. Their "hearts and minds" are already too scrambled to "win". Help them out. Send them to paradise where they can start enjoying those virgins now.

It is ironic that this week with all of the Holocaust Memorials – and even a thread here on Pelican – that the response to this post – especially the last few – appear to be calling for the same thing that we are supposed to never forget. The eradication of a religion. Not just the very serious global problem of a radicalized sect or a crazed spinoff from a religion – but the whole religion – they are all guilty, right? As to what causes terrorism? Hate & small-mindedness is usually essential. Unfortunately those traits are found everywhere. Just like what is being displayed here.
