Other Issues
My personal belief is that, until now, GW has likely been comfortable with the notion that Iraq will dominate national debate. I think he thinks he can paint himself handsome on that issue. I think he may be wondering about that assumption right now, but....
What about other issues? I think we may have some. The rising cost of health care. Prescription medication costs, separate from other health care costs. Ummmm....Social Security. Both of these issues are reputed to be potentially devastating to our country. Perhaps that's just a bunch of liberal economists suggesting that the sky is falling, but they do seem to be fairly momentous issues to me. Has the current administration gotten on top of those problems already and I'm just not fully informed on what the solutions were? |
I think GW has likely been terrified with the notion that we will see another Spain.

Island, though his statement might be tongue in cheek, is correct. Bush is obsessed with Iraq, and because he is, so is the media. Not one single question during his press conference two weeks ago was about anything other than Iraq. If the media is obsessed with Iraq, much of the American population will be too, as it looks to the media for information. Hence, feed them meat, all they know is meat.
Secondly, Bush is not known for naught as a war president. But at the same time his once-fabled title of being "a compassionate conservative" has eroded. Oddly enough, while a majority of Americans despise this war, Bush still leads Kerry, or is at least tied. I wonder if the Tillman death will have influence on the polls - he was huge in football - an American pasttime lots of Americans, dems, repubs alike, watch. |
