Should I Tell Him?

A strange question:

I noticed a Pelican just bought a car that I had PPI'd 3 weeks ago.

The PPI uncovered low compression in cyl 3 & 4 (110 - 120 vs 150) & poor leakdown 55% & 50% in the same, so I walked. I doubt the PO revealed the news.

Should I burst his bubble? He's using the PO's pics but I can only assume it's done.

Ian

It was a private sale & the PO is a lawyer.

Why didn't the guy get his own PPI before he bought it?

You should "out" this as a perfect example of why one should do a PPI.

Well, this is the first of 2 cars I have PPI'd.

The second failed leakdown too.

1988 Lagoon Green Coupe in Pensacola 95K $18375 on Trader.

25% leakdown in cyl 3

Unfortunately, I asked for compression, leakdown, valve cover drop, rust check behind headlamp & battery box (Florida coastal car y'know) & the wrench did it all. $328. Next time I'll tell the wrench to START with leakdown & don't do any other checking if it fails.

A good, honest mechanic, doing a PPI would have known to start at the leakdown work downwards from there.

You would think that wouldn't you. I learned my lesson - you tell them. The wrench seemed to know his stuff but I was really limited in my choices in Pensacola. Harry Williams Imports 850-435-8409.

That is, unless your having a PPI done on an early car...then you start with chassis integrity/rust.

IMHO, one of the reasons we're here is to look out for one another. You should tell your Brother-in-Arms, even (especially?) if he's not savvy enough to have a compression and leak-down done before a purchase.

Capital "S" shocked, Moses? Nice touch.

I did my own PPI, right there in front of the owner, and shaved over $4k off the price of my car

JP - I gotta agree.

He knows the situation now.
