Bought a new bike....looking to sell the Masi

Thanks...here's a pic

My new Lemond will be easier on the back and it fits better.

Asking $750 for the full bike, Campy Chorus Grupo with Spinergy carbon wheels. I will part it out....I've heard the upgrade to 9 speed is pretty easy....

Mike: post the size of the Masi (53cm, 55cm, etc.), so that prospective buyers will know what size frame you're selling.

BTW: Masi bicycles are super sweet, and famous (remember "Breaking Away?"). Are you sure you want to unload it? I bought a LeMond Zurich, though a standard frame; not a drop tube bike like this:

It's a great bicycle. Very fast and climbs like a mountain goat. But I also have my twenty-year-old Colnago, which rides like butter compared to the LeMond. Sure, it's heavier and old-world steel, but it's precise, less skitterish and in ways, more comfortable. Besides which, it feels it can survive a nuclear blast.

I'd hold onto the old Italian steel - retro rides are alot of fun too.

sorry, too small for me and I just bought a kinda rough Davidson frame. Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone have a recommnedation for a place in LA that can strip the frame and either repaint or powdercoat? There is some rust in a few places, so it can't just be dipped, although I suppose I could try and deal with that before the fact (already started, but I'm already bored).

Not in L.A. Cycleart (or maybe Cycloart) in San Diego stripped and painted my Colnago; but that was years ago.

Call Kevin at Automotive Innovations - he might know someone who'd do this.

Cool brake calipers. Anyone know if those Spinergy's are durable?

I know nothing about Masi bikes, but you might try Ebay. Early in the season, you might find a buyer. Unless the frame is worth $$$, I don't think you'd get more than $750 parting it out. Just a wild guess. Sometimes old gear is worth gold, and sometimes it is worth less than dirt.

BTW, dd74, how do you like the fewer spoked wheels? I bought a set of Campagnolo Zonda wheels with 16/20 spokes or thereabouts. The wheels pinged for 200 miles, and both wheels were wobbling pretty bad. I ended up selling the Campagnolo wheels and going back to a traditional 32 spoke wheelset. I'm starting to think strong and durable is more important than light and trick. After all, it's ALL about the motor.

Mike-dude, that is a beautiful bike. Just for a frame of reference, nice Delta brakes are going regularly for 250 and above on ebay-I'd swap those out for some nice Veloce dp's and still sell the bike for 750. I've been looking for a reasonably priced set of Deltas for a while for a Colnago that I have.

The upgrade on the levers to 9sp is a $25 part and around a half hour labor. Very doable.

I'd give you 750 in a heartbeat, but I ride a 50 or 51.

Ultimately, I gave up serious ax and hillclimbs to get back on my bike-standing around all weekend was doing nothing for my fitness.

Todd, not in LA, but check out Spectrum Powder Works (eponymous website) in Colorado. I've had bikes done by Freshframes, etc, and the only real competition Spectrum has is Joe Bell, but they are MUCH cheaper. The cool thing is they'll duplicate any old logo, or do custom. I spent a week at Interbike this year sharing a booth with about 40 frames done by them, and I think we spent most of the last Sunday cleaning off the drool.

Joe Bell is a god. I had a Rivendell for awhile (another bike I shouldn't have sold).

Todd: isn't there a bicycle convention in LA in the upcoming weeks? I thought I saw a poster on a lampost announcing it. Do you know anything about this?

Jurgen: I love the fewer-spoked wheels. It really cleans up the overall look, even with a standard frame. Problem is, the wheels are BIG BUCKS. They're as much as a pair of 951 Fuchs. I haven't had any issues with mine; they're tight and don't wobble, and I pretty much hammer hard on my back in most cases. L.A. roads are no bargain either.

Mike: I'd really look into finding current prices on your Masi. The price you're asking may not equal the sum of the bicycle. Those calipers are very nice.
