Bad ricer
Just to get this out of the way, i know plenty of jap cars and there capabilities. This story is meant more to inform the ones that know what they are doing in tuning jap cars, why they are made fun of by that stereotypical garbage can big wing image.
So i'm driving back from el paso, tx, which is a boring 45 min drive. I was in my beetle, which is a tdi. In case you don't know about diesels, before 2002 they are 90hp, from 2002 and on they are 110hp. Needless to say, i have the 90hp diesel engine. Well some riced out civic with a monster muffler flies up onto my rear, and tries to start with me. Typically i'd wave him off, but since this is a long drive, i figured i'd embarrass myself for the sake of entertainment. So i leave it in fifth, and step on the throttle. He's already downshifted (i know because my windows were down and his motor was screaming) and get's on it, and the funny thing to my surprise, is that i pulled away from him from 60-90 mph. After 90 the diesel's rpm gets above 3k and starts loosing power where he finally caught up and left me. So i'm thinking maybe he got a bad start, so we go a few more times and low and behold, i constantly pull him from 60-90. The rest of the way home i was laughing in tears.

Why are you posting street racing stories here?
Granted, this is OT, but please do not post street racing stories. Thank you, -Z-man, OT Moderator.

Z is trying to make up for letting the breast shots stay posted for 26 hours, 18 minutes and 37 seconds last week. see, he was asleep at the wheel and im guessing wyane gave him an ear full at the moderator staff meeting on friday.
so dont be too hurt on him hammering this "street racing" story, Z is trying to redeem himself in the moderator circle...

1fast - not to disagree or anything but from 1999.5 to 2003 all TDI's in the US where 1.9 liter 90 hp 155 ft lbs.
Starting in 2004 the Jetta/Golf/NB got 100 hp 170 ft lbs (guessing on torque number) 1.9 unit injector engines. The Passat TDI gets a 2.0 liter unit injector engine with 134 hp and some where around 200 - 210 ft lbs of torque. You can chip your TDI for ~$325 and get about 120 hp and around 210 to 220 ft lbs of torque and actually increase your fuel economy I drive a 2000 Jetta TDI and lifetime MPG has been 51 mpg (115K miles) and I have been chipped since 20K miles Z man you have to be kidding on streeting racing comment.

But I will refrain from further explanation: I don't wish this post to become a "Street racing pros vs. cons" thread. (I fear it will, nonetheless.) -Z.

Hey I am against street races as well but I wouldn't call what fast red doing racing.
We have all done that where you pull a car for the fun of it. Last night I was heading home and the jack ass next to me didn't want to pass and I wanted to pass him so I passed him got up to 100 mph before he backed down. Not the smartest thing to do but the roads where empty and I wouldn't call that racing

I’m not a big fan of street racing either and I honestly never participate in it BUT posts about street racing are posted fairly often on the 911 tech board and they stay there, probably because then often create some interesting discussions. I cannot see how you correlate a post on a (barely) street race and Pelican condoning street racing. It’s not like there is a street racing board, for C sake.
Many people have removed their cats, replaced them w/ bypass pipes or new performance exhaust, and discussed about running them on their streetcars and daily drivers. Isn’t that technically illegal? Should all those posts be band also? Is Pelican (who sells these exhaust systems) responsible for how they are used? GMAFB.

One time I was drag-racing a bunch of civics, and we were all going like 150mph on residential back roads. I had to swerve to avoid a pack of little kids with their grandmas, some of whom were holding puppies. One of the civics hit a tree. It was so awesome, just like FAST AND THE FURIOUS. The important thing is that I won. Street racing rules!

z-man i just doing his job? like the FCC.
but that was really not street racing. the drive from el paso to las crusas really is boring. and driving past the two dairy farms is bad for the nose, and ofactory lobe. this was just a case of two young guys driving past the speed limit side by side.

Z-man is doing his job to keep the board a safe place to be. It's a question of liability, really -- if someone gets in trouble street racing, they could sue PPBB for condoning it. But not if the moderators forbid such discussion! "No, your honor, PPBB would never condone such activity! In fact, we forbid all discussion of illegal activity on our board!" Too easy...
That said, CJ's post is about the funniest thing I've read in a while. ![]()

Ok, let me clarify some things:
I personally have a problem with street racing. That is why I made my initial comment. Note that I asked that street racing not be discussed here. I didn't say anything about shutting down the thread or banning anyone! "I'm not only the OT Forums moderator, I'm also a participant here." I merely made a personal comment about street racing. Can't I do that? These are public forums. That means some young impressionable teens have access to these threads. I am sure that 1fast is a responsible driver and can get away with driving fast on public roads once in a while. However, a kid with a 1 week old license may not excersise the same type of judgement and believe that he can do the same thing in different circumstances. The results may be quite different in that case. If you've lost respect for me because of my opinons, so be it. It is unfortunate that my opinions cause you to lose respect for me. There is an unwritten rule here: "We agree to disagree" on many points. I have an opinion on street racing, and as such, I posted it here. I didn't think that would cause people to lose respect for me, but I guess you can't please everyone all the time! Regarding illegal activites: I've seen and read about far more innocent people being killed due to reckless street racing than I have with people driving around with non-stock exhausts. Granted both can be considered illegal, but I can hardly compare the two beyond that! (Putting on my Moderator Hat: ) I am not an employee of Pelican Parts. Heck, I don't even get a dime for being a moderator: I do it voluntarily! (Yeah, I volunteer for all the abuse you guys give me! ![]() I think I do a pretty good job of letting you guys say what you want to say and post what you wish. Sometimes, I do step in and edit/warn/delete/lock stuff. Most often, I lock things down for three reasons: 1. The post is obviously out of bounds (posting nudity, personal attacks...etc). 2. Someone else has complained about what someone posted. 3. Someone is trying to push the boundaries - to see how far they can take it. Later, -Z-man.

we get you Z, your like that uncle that let you get away with alot, up till the point where it would get him in trouble.
regarding the off topic area, hes right. i spend more time here than the tech bbs now. i check this spot 1st and go to the tech side after exhausting my fun here. kick tabs a bit, inflame a republican or six, see some boob and chat about nipples. whats there not to like? and oh yeah, see a great rack if the moderator is asleep at the wheel. my office computer has locks and limits on it so that pic was the 1st boob on my monitor. my office mate printed it, guess what im looking at? mmmmmm

For the record, I have not lost respect for Z-man. He lets us get away w/ a lot, we usually know the limits, and sometimes we try to push them as far as we can. Not an easy board to moderate, very little is taboo here, and sometimes it’s hard to tell when the lines are crossed.
On this topic alone, I respectfully disagree, no worries.
