While I think the US has more to fear from its leaders and traditional truck bombs I think this is just left over hype from the 'saddam has nuke materials' argument.
Speaking of dirty bombs, it seems a bit hypocritical to cast this as an evil that should not befall americans at the same time that our military is littering iraq, afghanistan, bosnia and anywhere else we fight a war with tons of radiological materials as a result of detonating and shooting DU weaponry. You would think that the people that don't care about the 'enemy' would at least be concerned about the effect these weapons have on our soldiers. I read an article just the other day about how the DOD is refusing to authorise tests for soldiers that suspect they may be radiologically contaminated. I think that DU is certain to become the agent orange of the 21st century as far as the lingering effects on our soldiers and enemy civilians go. |
" DU is certain to become the agent orange of the 21st century " -- I hope youre wrong, HP.
re; dirty bombs: The PBS show "Frontline" did a piece on dirty bombs. I believe someone(Govt) must be thinking it is quite plausable, else we wouldn't be getting that education. |
The terrorists in spain didn't need dirty bombs to kill lots of people.
The fact is that when the US was mounting its nuke case against saddam they frequently used the dirty bomb argument since they knew he didn't have the resources to make a fissile bomb. Even when a story with little credence gets a lot of momentum its not going to go away overnight. |
Quiet, Quiet Children, we don't want to think of such things....it might upset you...keep you from spending...and we all know how much your spending means to the World economy...Everything is all right the government is on the job...the FBI and CIA are out there to protect us from such evil...even if it means they are doing some things that might put you off your lunch...it is all to keep you safe so you can live your lives in air conditioned homes, and driving the latest SUV. HUSH HUSH children go to sleep now...

LOL, good finds beep. I can see the rhetoric has changed a little now that they can no longer cling onto the WMD farce but their new arguments are as empty as their old ones.

Classic stuff. Now who's flip flopped?

Very little can be done to protect the U.S. from another terrorist act. Yet when (not if) we get hit again it will all be GWs fault. Our actions in the middle east today are sure to bring more terrorist acts here but I believe we would be in a much more dangerous situation now had we not gone in at all. This is much bigger than anyone percieved and I give GW kudos for having the balls to initiate a response knowing so many folks with their heads in the sand would complain. The reality is that the world will never be the same again - which is probably a good thing cause we never really had any real friends (except Britian) to begin with.
Oh and the whole dirty bomb thing, sure it's a reality but we can't live our lives in fear of the event. My line of work tells me we're in for a one frightening decade - 911 will look small. |
Personally I believe that ending our support of evil regimes (that includes israel as well as saudi arabia) and pulling our troops out of the middle east would make the world a much safer place for americans but some people would call the wisdom of minding our own ****ing business 'giving into terrorism'.
 |
you're right 350.
when someone holds a gun to your head to rob you, or I see your wife or g/f being raped in an alley, I'll mind my own f******* bussiness. ;) |
emw -- I think you actually touched precisely on one of the points being raised.
Why the hell has the US become the "unwanted" world policeman, when we have so damn many problems to deal with at home? Poverty, crime, illiteracy, corruption...we don't need to go to Iraq or anywhere else in the world to find those challenges! |
I have the means to protect my family, thank you very much.
I don't think the police filling out a report on a crime a half an hour or more after the fact does much to keep crime from occuring. Its interesting how so many people who support this insane war are the same people who can not differentiate between justified self defense and starting a fight that didn't need to be started in the first place. |
