I just got off the phone with the local traffic lawyer. He was pretty impressed with my work, and says that I probably ran circles around the judge (who he knew on a first name basis), went over his head with my technical arguments, and thus made him angry. He sounds pretty competent, and gives me some confidence in his ability to win the thing. Only problem is his fee -- $1250, plus the court fees and clerk fees. Now it's time to call the insurance company and figure out if it's worth it. ...
Aargh, what a scam. I am so in the wrong profession. Dan |

Your new lawyer is probably a poor poker player and the judge a good poker player down at the Moose Lodge.. so you do understand that a lawyer may have unexpected expenses. I ran into a judge in the early '70s that sold used TV & Radio Tubes in the courtroom when he wasn't collecting ticket revenue. The completion of the interstate betwee NY and Fla hurt his business. But the Georgia judge was yery warm and friendly. I thought he treated me like family. "Son, you'all in trouble." |
Dan,
This is quite easy....if you don't think $1,250 is worth it, then don't hire the attorney. Definition of "scam" - a fraudulent business scheme; a swindle. The lawyer is not swindling you. If you think he is worth the cost then you pay him. If not, then you don't hire him. No one is forcing you to get an attorney, you can always continue to represent yourself. |
