Just saw Seinfeld on Leno . . . . .

Says he put a Porsche engine in a '65 VW bus and he's going to drive across the country with 2 of his childhood friends. Is that what they mean by the Magic Bus?

No, probably not. But I've seen pics/video of a old VW bus that had a 911 motor in it. That thing could do wheelies.

yes, the bus did pop wheelies. He still has it, I believe

When I was in high school my best friend and I put a 912 engine in his Bug with the 912 tranny. We have to make a lot of the mounts ourselves but for the $900 paid for motor and tranny that thing could really fly. The car was completely stripped except for two racing seats. Sure was fun... well at least until we crashed it during a "rally" we decided to stage on a friend's farm but that's another story.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul!

My boss/mechanic when I was in high school had a 3.0L in his bus, so it could tow his 3.1L 914-6. The bus had black Fuchs too.

At my last job a few years ago, I saw a 52 (?) window VW bus with a 993 engine in it. It also had many parts of 993 interior in it and the suspension and wheels from a 2000 996. I remember the guy driving into the parking lot. I know right away what it was. It was BEAUTIFUL! I think it was built by fabcar in Carmel, IN? It was featured in one of the P-car magazines recently. I talked to the guy forever. He kept trying to get away but I had so many questions. That thing sounded wonderfull. He told me that he had gotten it up to 150mph. There's nothing like driving a giant loaf of bread at 150mph. I think he said they built it for a client (probably in Cali) for "a couple" hundred thousand. Man I wish I had that kind of disposable income. I also wish I had had my camera with me that day!

With 500 lbs. behind the rear axle, I'll bet it could do wheelies w/ the ignition shut off. Put one foot on the rear bumper to tie your shoe and it does a wheelie. Neat trick!

I'm paraphrasing here, but Leno said, "yeah, I'll probably wind up behind you going up the mountains and I'll have to lay the horn on." To which Jerry replied, "It's been modified ..... it's got a Porsche motor in it ..... ".

Your incorrect on this line, Jerry says "Porsch" motor. What do you think about that? Uh-oh, have I just started another Porsch- Porsche thread??
Anyway, that would be so much fun to ride with Jerry in that thing, wonder if they will pick up any hitchhikers?

Edit: The Fabcar one might be the one Jerry is riding in. He showed a picture of it and it was that same blue color, but it was only a shot of the front.

Paul Newman was famous for putting a 911 motor in a VW Bug back in the day.

I knew a guy that put a Ford 289 HIPO and 4 Speed Toploader in a VW Bug...up front where a motor belongs.... The work was equivalent in quality to the Blue Buss.

here's a well designed, but incomplete, site of a bug conversion that was headed for the crusher: http://www.bugzilla.com.
I thought there was a car by the same name with a blown 454 in the front and probably a weight to horsepower ratio of at least 3:1.
