I fell asleep on a beautiful day
We were all there, gathered to celebrate our graduation. I went to get somethig and missed the group photo. Then gradually everybody started to slip away to follow their own paths. There were fewer and fewer of us left at the celebration. Until I was the only one left. The only one left to hold unto the past. Until I too drifted off to follow my own path in life...
Now there are no ties that bind me to those people. No lasting relationships that have transcended the passage of time. It is as if I, they have never existed. For it is all like a dream of ephemeral memories..

The tie is that you had shared experiences once in your life, that's always been enough for me.
Pick up the phone...you might be surprised at what can happen. And what you have in common.

I hope one of my old military buddies might contact me through it. I dropped out of H.S. after 9th grade, so be grateful for the memories, the only memory I have is work & keggers.

The thought is more about leaving CA and coming to LV and the gradual loss of contact with my friends there...as I am and they are no longer part of my daily life... Thats what happens people come and go in our lives...a few stick around...and are good even if you havn't talked to them in 20 years.

I was deeply saddened a few weeks ago when I ran a Google search on an old friend that was the best man at my first wedding 20 years ago. We had a falling out about 10 years ago & lost touch. It all boiled down to both of us being drunken & obnoxious asses.
When I ran the search I expected to see where he had accomplished great things because he was already a fairly successful custom home builder, a locally accomplished musician, & an extremely motivated person. Instead I found this. http://www.grungelive.com/brian.htm

Tabs, Think of Paul's post as an object lesson.
One of my best friends lives a continent and three time zones away. Falling out 18 years ago, he looked me up 15 years ago and we're as close as we were then - closer actually. I've since tried my hardest not to keep people in my life as that's simply impossible to make time for everyone, but more to stay in touch. The best friendships can pick up right where you left off.
