Hi,
I've been searching for similar forums for Audi but basically they all suck. Any plans for Pelican to have Audi too? -J

Are you talking about http://www.audiworld.com/ - as sucking?

Audiworld is the best one out there (display and content)... But I hate the fact that users post a 640x480 picture as a signature for every message! It's like no one can reply without a big picture!
Something else, this is cultural I guess, but people reply on the subject not on the body. So you never know if whats on the subject is all they have replied... Very short worded messages. Pelican have much longer (maybe detailed) messages... Also the threads are expanded so that takes a lot of space (you have to scroll a lot more than in Pelican... Tech articles are Ok but still most don't compare to Pelican's (almost no pictures). And last but not least: There is basically just 1 forum per model, In Pelican you have technical, Regional,Classifieds and general talk completely separated and moderated. But for as long as there is nothing else out there... I'll stick to audiworld. Bye -J

I think Audiworld content is unbelievably repetitive and immature for the most part, with a few rare gems mixed in. I really don't like their crude BBS software, either.
However, they do have the eyeballs and it would take significant time and viral marketing for a Pelican Audi BBS to build up steam IMHO. Not that I wouldn't like to see it happen...

Maybe will take time, but almost not money. Wayne just need to create the new groups and voila!
For advertisement they can talke to drivewerks who has some generic stuff.. I'd like to see an Audi forum here in Pelican.... -J

That would be great, I would never have to leave. AW has some informative stuff for sure. But, those guys are younger, blinge-er crowd for sure.

I agree - this is the most mature BBS I've run across - 95% of the time.
The Audi/MBenz/Volvo/Saab/VW forums out there have gotten very bling and juvenile. I'd love to see Audi and MBenz forums added to this BBS - keep it German.

I have found the Audi world forum for 92-97 100/A6 very useful. Picked up tips I never would have known from reading only Bentley. For example: brake pad warning light on, even though front pads have lots of wear left. Audi dealer charges me $85 to look at and tell me that only solution is to replace instrument cluster for $900 plus labour. Posted on forum and quickly got solution: stick a wire in the connector at the caliper and bridge the two wires. Problem disappears. Replacing instrument cluster would not have solved the problem. Audi dealer techs seem to be lazy, venal or stupid, or all three. I had to take Bentley in one day to show them how to adjust the rear camber. The Audiworld board has saved me lots on money.

Pelican actually DOES have an Audi forum.
The 944 was built on the Audi engine assembly line. Engine installed from the bottom. Wayne was waaay (as usual) ahead of us all!

I should have qualified that the Audiworld forum I mainly have read is the S4 board...i.e. all the 17-20 year old kids whose parents bought them $40K cars and then modded them with body kits, 18-19" wheels, bigger turbos, and 100dB exhausts.
There used to be tons of ridiculous street-racing posts, but that thankfully seems to have tapered-off a bit.

Ok, so I asked Wayne if there are any plans to have an Audi Forum, here's the answer (I hope he doesn't mind):
Not right now - got my hands ful with Porsche / BMW! ![]() -Wayne Could it be any clearer?? Maybe drop an email to Wayne so he can see there is some interest to have and Audi Forum.. I don't think it's expensive but who will be the moderator? All the teenager cr@p at AW is just sucking up the life of something that can be truly valuable... Now where the heck I can turn off the signatures in there... -J

since Wayne doesn't sell Audi parts (other than whatever generic stuff from DriveWerks qualifies), there is no reason to support a specific online community. And consider that this thread has all of 15 posts in it, I don't think there is anywhere near the critical mass necessary to jumpstart an online community (that number is somewhere between 50 and 250 depending on topic and activity).

Sure enough there is no Audi critical mass to start it it the same way as the Porsche and BMW forums but most of the Pelican users are happy with this forum and that is the exposure that other websites wish they had...
Also many Porsche owners have Audi too (we all have a thing for German cars, don't we?) So for me I'd stay here and help it grow instead of going to other websites... Kind of egg-chicken problem I think.. But maybe this is the right step towards another happy community. -J
