Troy goes to Hollywood
I went to see the movie Troy last night. I thought the movie was entertaining and well done. Brad Pit was perfectly cast as the Greek Hero Achilles...he has that certain arrogance, pretty boy look about him.. with that cetain come hither look at times... Which will make the film a Gay Cult Classic.
What I didn't like was the fact that they didn't stay with the story at the end and that they made Achilles such a killing machine. If Achilles was so good why did the Greeks need an army...just send out Pit/Achilles as the Terminator. I thought it would have bin far mor efective if Hector and Achilles met and fought during a pitched battle. Two that in a subsequent battle Achilles was killed by Paris's arrow and that the Greeks in abject despair at Achilles death, try one last thing the Trojan/USC horse. That the Greek King Aggemenon upon returning home was killed by his wife instead of Perspone (Hectors cousin and Achilles love interest). It would have been a better comeupence for Aggie. Now I realize that a film maker only has 3 hours max to tell his story, and that means he has to be economical and pack as much information about character and story line in as short of time as he can. In that the film maker could have left out a couple of scenes , shot a few of the scenes in a different way to gain the additional time to follow the orginal story line. My question is how can you beat the sheer drama of the orginal Greek epic? Anything less is to rape the Illiad. With regard to the politics of movie making, it sure seems that the script was tailored to Pit's liking giving him a coupla dramatic opportunities to strut his stuff. I personally think that the story line is more important than any character. In this case I think Pit would have agreed and put ego aside. After all the title of the movie is Troy and not Achilles the Greek.

the movie messed everything up. achilles had a gay lover, which was his equally pretty boy cousin. that is why he got all pee'ed off and killed hector. and i dont remember achilles as a great warrior, he just had blessed skin that was inpenetratable (?) because his mom dipped him into a holy river while holding him by his heel, his only non dipped weak point. i thought it was funny how helen wasnt the prettiest one in the cast. i guess the movie would have lost something if brad had to give it the the other man, greek style!
cliff oh yea, they couldnt just send achilles in terminator style, because in the book, after he killed hector and was doing the victory body drag. a lone archer shot him in the heel and killed his arse. the trojan horse was "plan B".

Achilles was the Great Greek Warrior and his match on the TRojan side was Hector. He was dipped and only his heel was didn't get wet leaving him vunerable only there. Paris is the one who shot him from the walls in subsequent fighting. The war lasted 10 years, the movie could certain havew shown the passage of time...after all Orson Wells showed years pass in 30 seconds of film time.
I also think the character of Odyessus was short changed in the film as well. I liked the Kirk Douglas version of the story of Odyessus...where he returned home only to find his old dog recognized him...and his bow where he terminates all the freeloaders in his home. That was a good movie...

Kirk Douglass was the MAN, when he played Odyessus. Great movie.
The wife and I saw Troy last weekend and we both agreed...way too many "pretty-boy" shots of Brad Pitt. ![]() Otherwise, a pretty decent hollywood interpretation of a classic story. Too bad they felt the need to re-arrange the story line. Randy

Haven't seen Troy yet but the best Pit movie to date has to be Kalifornia. The scene where he and Juliette Lewis have to get a hotel room and Pit says, "Twenty bucks for this? Ain't nothin' in here but.. tv and.. a crapper." That makes me laff.

![]() Wife is really into Brad so I'm sure we're going to see Troy. I've liked most of his movies too. I'm anxious to see "The Day after Tomorrow" for the special effects. For some dark sick reason I'm really chomping to see the whole tidal wave scene. Tsunami type disaster waves have always creeped me out since watching "The Poseidon Adventure". I can freak out sitting on the beach imagining a huge wave approaching the coast. The wave scene in "Deep Impact" was frightening. Yes I am wierd. I saw the movie and enjoyed it.
It was kind of funny...there was a group of teenie-bopers in the theatre watching the movie. Everytime Pitt was half naked they'd get giddy and gaspy. It was freggin hilarious, the whole theatre was laughing at 'em.
