Just discovered the dumbest link at the DMV
Just went and had my "other car" 1995 Volvo 850 inspected during lunch. Had an appointment for 12:45, wasn't taken into the station itself until 1, not so bad.
Well then the guy pulls it in, does the visual inspection and walks away....Another car is in front of mine, on the dyno waiting but no one is there....Finally a flood of guys come out of the breakroom (if you don't want appointments during lunch then don't schedule them!!!) tackle the Accord in front of me, get it through the dyno, brake/suspension test, gas cap and he's done. Next is mine...Guys spend several minutes trying to plug the computer in to read my OBD, well guess what, before 1998 there is no OBD (my 5 year old could have read that off the information sheet) and guess what I gave them my license, registration and insurance card when I pulled up that clearly state that my car is a 1995. I'm just watching and smirking... So its time for dyno pipe test and the jacka$$ pulls it forward and lines up my back wheels, sets the dyno, steps on the gas and guess what it launched off the dyno, my car is F@#$%G front wheel drive ahole! How many of these cars do they see a day!!!! Suburban NJ is full of volvos..The rest was fairly uneventful but I failed anyway for a bad gas cap and a burned out light above my license plate! Emissions wise I'm virtually cleaning the air.....My volvo 850 is truly a menace to society....watchout I'm going to foul your environment with my gas cap.... Down with the DMV!!!!! |
Adam;
I just got an inquiry from Nevada DMV about my '80SC. For the 4 years I have had it, it is listed as a 1980 Carrera. Because that's what it says on the hood. Nowhere on my registration / title does it say Porsche. This from the 'technical inspection' conducted at the DMV when I brought the car in from Texas. What was the inquiry about? I was asked if I was going to request the tax credit for an 'alternate fuels car'. Based on my 'technical inspection', the 'inspector' looked under the front hood, and didn't see an engine. He never looked under the rear hood. He put me down in his database as an electric vehicle. The person I spoke with at DMV headquarters in Carson City was laughing so hard he couldn't speak. To this day I have a 1980 Carrera according to the State of Nevada. |
LOL, too funny. Hope it wasn't my buddie's place. :)

Oh man Sing that story is too much!
The other thing I forgot was that there is now a sign as you pull up that you are not allowed to verbally abuse or call anyone within the station anything that could be interpreted as disparaging, or they will file a report and get you in mad amounts of trouble....my guess is you'll never pass inspection again..... |
Is this a state inspection center? Randolph? Don't yell now....:)
|
I got in trouble once because I kept showing the 'inspector' where the things were that he was looking for.
After that, I play dumb. Don't say anything, just do what he asks. He points to the front hood, and says 'open it'. I do. He sees battery and no engine... yep, must be electric. He walks around to back, sees "Carrera", writes Carrera as type of car. At least he spelled it correctly. |
Took my 944 throught the Freehold inspection station on last sat. There was 4 cars in front of me. I sat on line for 47 mins. Amazingly it passed everything. Emissions passed By 3 points
Whew!!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/...s/beerchug.gif The last time I went through I failed because the E-brake "clicked too many times" :mad: |
Hey Rick-
It was the state inspection station in Westfield.... I don't take the P-car there anymore, they just find a reason to fail it, I cough up the $75 and magically it passes..... |
I find going to a local "independent" is the best way as well.
If I recall correctly you're in Madison. If so, I have some local who'll do you right. I could be mixing you up with AlertMike.... |
I'm in Scotch Plains....Gene at ******** takes the 911 across the street to Glen's the Volvo really overall normally is a breeze to pass inspection with, $10 will fix this one but overall the process at the state centers really is a joke....

I've always felt that I'd rather these idiots be employed at the DMV than someplace I have to be more than once a year. Imagine one of these idiots at your bank or Dr.s office.... Frightning
