Grand Am: More Boring Than Political Threads?

OK, I'm trying to watch and develop some interest in the Mt. Tremblant GrandAm race ..... but these Daytona Prototypes just aren't doing it - they all look the same, they're all ugly and they're really not that fast. I think it would be a better, more interesting race if they got rid of the DP cars and just ran the GT and SGS Porsches, Ferraris, BMWs, NSXs, Maseratis, etc. !

I think the DP's are pretty cool. but damn! they never really show any of the other battles taking place in GT SGS. They just focus on the first couple DP's the whole time. I agree that gets really old quickly.

I'm not on cable, but add me to the list of those wishing race coverage would cover ALL the classes, not just the big guns...

Ya no kidding, and the worst part about it, is that there are two Porsche cars in DP that haven't been doing all that hot. Brumos #59 and #58 (Red Bull). Imagine how much more enjoyable it would be to watch DP if those cars could win some races...

And yes, I can't stand not hearing about the other races going on on the track. Seems like the commentators only mention the GT or SGS when they wreck.

Go Porsche!

Quite a flat ending with the full course yellow.

I read in Excellence that techs added weight to The Racers Group's cars to prevent an overall win at '04 Daytona. There's something very wrong with that. Maybe I missed some ethereal point in the scheme of things and this is not a sham.

In general, why aren't the Ferraris and Corvettes faster with that kind of power?

Actually, I thought the GT and SGS classes were as, if not more boring, than the DP's. In racing, diversity is excitement.

Frankly you guys, I find Grand Am and ALMS far more interesting than F1 and NASCAR!

Hey, we can't watch the SCCA Runoffs every weekend...

I like the concept of the DP cars and the general thrust towards more cost-effective "spec" racers as opposed to the no-expense-spared world of the early Can-Am, GTP and other essentially unlimited prototype classes of the past. They were AWESOME -- no question -- but at least in the current environment, more of "us" have some slim chance of ever driving in these GT and production or spec-based classes.

Unfortunately all of the race series seem to be suffering from a "chicken and egg" dilemma. There are fewer spectators showing up, thus fewer advertising/sponsorship dollars, thus it is tougher and tougher for teams to put together the equipment and labor they need to put on a good show to attract the aforementioned!

I agree with you Chris. Those prototypes sure dont all look the same, Nascar and F-1 do.

I spent 2 days at Mt-tremblant last week-end, the ticket price for the week-end was $50 Cdn, around $35 US, and for that price I was able to walk around the track, go to the paddocks and even in the pits. My kids admission was free and they even got some autographs.

Next month at the F-1 GP for $250. I will be stuck in my stand and wont even make it to the paddocks.

Man, that sounds like the gud ol' days. The good old days around here is a POC or PCA Cup race.

Paul, you need to either get DSL or cable or satelite. At least one of the 3. TV is not that bad and the history, science and geography stuff is over there. Some races, too. Come on and shoot the 40 bucks.

Ahhh, but the 40 bucks is PER MONTH...that's $480 per year, or at today's prices, 200 gallons of gas. Seriously? The more TV I see, the more I love my old stereo...
