Three comments: First, war is hell. Second, we are all fallible. And third, the world is full of Monday morning quarterbacks that never had the guts to play football. . .

Is that what we are doing? Playing football... gee and I thought it was a thoughtless war that we will not be able to get out of... kinda like Vietnam but worse. Much more worse.

I love that commercial with Bret Favre running around town criticizing how people do things in their daily life. "I would have done this, I would have done that" kind of thing.
Well, I wouldn't have claimed that I was trying to make the world a better place and then do what almost every other country was against. Go to war without empirical evidence. Of course at the time he was touting that he had empirical evidence - though from what I have read it was widely considered suspect. The test is always would the evidence hold up in a court of law. The evidence that Colin Powell presented to the UN in his last ditch effort to get them to support us was nothing but hearsay and circumstance. Nothing of substance… I will also concede that France, Germany and Russia’s motivation to avoid war was based in finance rather than world safety. That doesn’t make what we’ve done right. Also, reading Newsweek often they have a very interesting article on the prison abuse scandal and the timeline of events that lead the United States of America reevaluating its interpretation of the Geneva Conventions.

From an EX-serviceman ( US NAVY e-5 EW2 6 yrs ) that worked in intelligence and warfare fields.
I agree with this post. I have said it wayyy back, when people equated 9-11 with anything that the government told them. If the government said that 9-11 was caused by John Smith at 1234 anydrive in anytown USA and it was announced on the TV, It would take 2 minutes for people to string him up. Then, the govenment would say OOOps, maybe we were wrong. Granted, Saddam was a bastard and evil man. It was a f'd up situation over there. But, why do we as a nation have to solve those problems with the blood of our people. How about we solve OUR problems right here on our turf with OUR corrupt government. Nuff said.

This is just like Vietnam, Excpet in Vietnam we were losing 5 times as many soldiers for ten years.
What is the magic number of UN resolutions that would have made things work out? 20, 30, 50? Do you think it would have been any different with the UN? Just like the bang up job in Somalia and Kosovo that we had to go hold thier hand on? Wake up, these guys (terrorist) have been at war with us for years ie: WTC '93, USS Cole, Kenya and Tanzinia embassys. In '03 JFK knew there were WMD's, the good news is due to the delay caused by our French and German and Russian oil for food buddies, we dont know where they are now. I sincerly hope they do not end up in anytown USA
