First trip to the track in over 3 years

It was definitely an experience. I came there with cynical thoughts being that i'm out in the desert and it's rare to see sports cars, much less porsches. To my surprise out of the 30 cars there at this open road race day, there were 7 porsches that i counted. One of which was a gutted, and i mean gutted, 74 911 with a carburated 3.0, fiberglass body, roll cage from safety devices, and a large fuel cell up front for endurance racing. It also just so happend to be owned by the driving instructor of the track. Other than his car, there were 2 914/6's, and a 944 doing DE. Plus, when the racers came out appearantly racing in small, front engined rear wheel racing, there were 3 944's on the grid, with 3 old rx7's fully race prepped, and two miata's also fully race prepped. All the rest of the cars were either full race cars, or small open wheel race cars. Not bad, not bad at all, i think i'm going to have to fix my damn trans and get out there. Who am i kidding, i know i'll be there, i'm hooked again.

Just to add some fuel to the fire. There were two very experienced DE drivers on the track obviously ready to race on there own i think considering how hard they were pushing. One was a blue 914/6 and the other was a blue shelby cobra (gorgeously built car). And, to my surprise anyway, the 914/6 was the fastest car on the track (the 74 911 wasn't running, but the other racers there were saying that his car was crazy fast). The cobra would easily catch him on the straight, which happend to be part of the drag strip (~1/4 mile or so), but once it got back into the complicated part of the road course you'd see the cobra drop back fast, and he was pushing it as far as i can tell since his tires were squealing around the corners pretty hard. And from what i can tell, the 914 had significant suspension work, stock flares, stock wheels, some type of race compound tire, and a six but i don't know what kind of six he was using (should've asked before i left).
