American flag display question:

Can someone settle some confusion for me? When the U.S. flag is displayed vertically, which side should the stars be on? Left or right? TIA. :cool:

Denis,

However you display the flag, either vertically or horizontally, the blue field goes in the upper left hand corner.

Denis;

I thought that was the answer, but for me of all people to suggest that you should favor the left side would be redundant, haha.

Thanks a lot. That is what I thought, but being dyslexic I could not remember.

Thank you both for your service and everyone else who visits this board! :cool:

And I believe it goes to the left of the state flag or any other flag being displayed simultaneously. With many flags, it goes in the center and taller. I'm sure there's a website.

On Memorial day ( if you have a staff or pole )
The flag should be flown at half-mast until noon then raised to the peak for the rest of the day.
When ever flying the flag half-mast it should first be raised to the peak for an instant then lowered to half mast; Then before taking the flag down for the day it should be raised to the peak again. :)

Up smartly and down cerimoniously.

All of what they said - I remember a book at my parents' place called the "American Patriot's Handbook" or something like that - it had all kinds of flag display information. You'd be suprised how many flags out there are displayed incorrectly.

I have the Air Force Pamphlet 36-2241 Vol 1. It has a section that answers all questions on flag display/use. But its a PDF file (36mb) And only a few (5) pages that deal with it. I can get the text to copy over but I can't figure out how to get the tables to copy over. If anyone know how to do this let me know so I can post this info!! I feel its something we all should know!!!

These rules will do until you get you file copied and up.

US soldiers wear an American flag patch on the right shoulder of their uniforms. It has the stars on the RIGHT, which looks wrong, but actually is correct. When worn on clothing, the flag should be positioned with the stars "closest to the heart." (See the RULES Zeke posted above.)
