BTW, BOHICA stands for "bend over, here it comes again", which is another popular military acronym...

As we used to say in Desert Storm, "this isn't hell, but you can see it from here and feel the flames". Overall, a pretty horrible experience! My grandfather fought in WWII and told my "Private Ryan" was a very accurate portrayal of that war, so I watched it and we talked about our "war experiences" for the first time in our lives. A great way to share experiences and learn more about each other. My grandfather is a wonderful man and we won't have him with us too much longer, so we spend alot of time together.

And DINKWAD. "Dual income/no kids/with a dog.
![]() I always thought that FUBAR was "beyond all repair' , but same meaning anyways. I thought that "Saving Private Ryan" was brilliant, (particularly Tom Hanks' performance), and I also read and heard first hand that the Normandy invasion scene was very true to reality. Of course it was choreographed by people who were actually there. And it wouldn't matter how long ago it happened, that is not the kind of thing that anyone forgets. ![]() God bless those vets who saved the world and built most of the world as we know it. Happy Memorial Day! ![]()

Yeah, I always liked BOHICA..
I made up one when I was in the Navy and had it on the underside of my ships baseball cap .. GTFO .. Get The F*** Out.. Came in handy during those " Re-enlistment questions". to this day I use FUBAR all the time ( FUBA Repair ) we used to " Float Test " things too. something didn't work anymore and it was FUBAR, then we would float test it ( throw over the side of the ship ) so that we could get a new one.

Scientific, my arse. Sh---. There's nothing scientific about most of those guesses.
I always liked IHTFP -- I Hate This ****** Place, originally. Of course, senior-types disapproved of this expression, so we started saying "I have truly found paradise," or "I hope there's a ****** parade," or "I have to ****** pee." The other one I really liked was SLJO -- you see, there's on Junior Officer on the boat who's more junior than all the other junior officers. Any spiffy little job that needs to happen ("Hey, I need a volunteer to sort, index, and file this 1000lb cabinet full of paper!") gets delegated down to the SLJO, one way or another. Unfortunately, you can't put "Special Little Jobs Officer" on your evals, though you can usually use the toilet paper that's given to commemorate your inauguration in the billet. Ah, the good ol' days.... Dan

The scene is so well made with so many small details standing out in an overall chaos. I can only imagine how I would feel and react if I was in a situation like that. Yes war is hell. Last edited by Mikkel; 05-31-2004 at 11:23 PM.. |
