No Holiday Party for you! (P.C. run amok, again)

I mentioned in another thread that I'm doing contract work for a government agency (which will remain nameless to protect the whatever).

I was in a staff meeting yesterday, and the Boss made her yearly request for someone to volunteer to be on the Christmas Party organizing committee.

She also noted that, last year, at least one staffer had complained about the title "Christmas Party." It was evidently too Christmassy. So, it was changed to "Holiday Party." We wouldn't want to offend.

Well, now "Holiday Party" has also come under fire. It implies holiness, see, and that's not to be tolerated.

So what's the party going to be called this year?

"The Winter Solstice Celebration"

Merry WSC, guys! I'm not making this up.

I saw thread or Email with a story that started off exactly like this.........????

Not to mention, no more "Ladies Night" in New Jersey bars:

No more cupcakes for birthday parties in Boston schools:

Don't forget the idiot mayor a few years ago (in Sacramento, I think) who wanted to rename manhole covers to something gender neutral.

Tom

nostatic 06-04-2004 08:03 AM

would that be a-hole covers?

And you guys wonder why I use a Mac...that way I avoid all this PC crap.

oh wait...*that* PC. nevermind.

If I am ever invited to a "Winter Solstice Celebration", I will not attend. Pretty stoopid if you ask me.

id10t 06-04-2004 08:37 AM

Happy Festivus!

trj911 06-04-2004 08:44 AM

You better tell those people who are offended by the word "holiday" or the term "Christmas Party" to check the $ in their pocket. They may want to get rid of it because is says "In God we trust" on it.

I just hope a bunch of offended Druids don't show up to bust up the joint.

There's nothing worse than a PO'd Druid.

Many Jewish people celebrate Christmas. IMO, it's almost like any other generic, over commercialized "holiday"....or should it be Holyday?

VINMAN 06-04-2004 10:08 AM

My Fire Dept changed the name of our annual Christmas party to the "Holiday" party, due to the fact that we had two non Gentiles in our dept. (Who where both one of the first ones to question why we changed the name of the party, and one of them is the guy thats has been running the x-mas party for years).

Political Correctness SUCKS!!!!
It's ruining the world.

This years party I am bringing my aluminum pole and will have the "airing of grievences". :p :p
HAPPY FESTIVUS!!

VenezianBlau 87 06-04-2004 10:16 AM

And my favorite part of Festivus...

The Airing of Grievances!
and, the Feats of Strength (or something)

VINMAN beat me to it!

Ahhh, Seinfeld...

RickM 06-04-2004 10:24 AM

What are they going to do with Santa?

Neilk 06-04-2004 10:53 AM

Colin,

Sounds like a great deal. If there is going to be a Winter Solstice Celebration, then you better hurry your a** up and start planning the Summer Solstice Celebration. You have a little more than 2 weeks to go.

is this country going mad? i remember standing up in the morning with my hand over my heart all the way up to 6th grade reciting the pledge of alliegance while the 10 commandments were hanging in the hall and there was a big ass freaking cupcake sitting on my desk waiting to be devoured cause it was a classmates birthday...........and i'm a better person because of it.......
wtf is this world coming too?

This happened while I was in college over a decade ago. However, the bars just changed "Ladies night" to "Skirt night" - prove the discrimination in that one!

SteveStromberg 06-06-2004 07:44 AM

Just call it a birthday party for Jesus.

A great challenge to any PC advocate is to sit through the first episode of South Park without laughing. "Jesus vs. Santa."

Good comedy is always holier than any "thou."
