My site is up, early entry to the Pelicans.

For those interested, my site is up. Well, it is not just me as I have three partners. This is a very political site (right wing, imagine!). Left wingers are welcome in the forums though we ask that you post only in "The Political Pit" for lively discussions. This has been my baby for some time and I got home today to find that the programmers were ahead of schedule and we are live. This is an unreleased opening and I thought of you guys first. I am well aware that I will take a TON of heat for this from some, but it is my passion and what is life if you don't follow your passions. There are a few mistakes here and there, but all in all I am very happy so far. Everything should be cleared up by the official opening Wednesday night. Feel free to sign up, participate in the boards(just opened, seriously have at it as we would LOVE to have some real activity come Wednesday), etc... I know there will be a ton of questions so I will not even try to answer any up front. The site explains itself very well, so enjoy or detest as the case may be

Pardon me whilst I don my asbestos suit

how can it be a "people's nation" if you only allow liberals (ie people with different ideas) to post in a single forum? Don't you find that disturbing?

Sorry...that doesn't sound like "the big tent" to me...

Let me tell you a story. There was a guy who was fairly well known in the online music community. He had a folksy humor, and was generally well liked. Then he started his own forum. Soon, he began posting strict guidelines about who can post what. Then he began banning people who dared to comment on his rants.

Now his site has a small handful of visitors, and in the other communities he has become a joke. Mostly because of his exclusionary rules.

democracy works only in an environment of free speech. The framers knew that. If you *really* want to effect change, don't you need to engage all sides of the discussion?

The site is for the advancement of conservative ideals. The fact that we allow liberals at all shows a certain level of understanding. Please read the mission statement. The name is a long story which will be discussed at length in the future.

btw, tell your developers they need to tweak the style sheet in the forums...they don't have any whitespace at the margins (among some other layout issues).

Nostatic,

You have mistaken us for a "lets talk politics" site. We exist to accomplish goals, they are stated in the site. If you as a liberal want to help us I won't complain

I read the mission statement. Evidently "conservative ideals" don't jibe with the constitution, democracy and free speech.

You don't think that your cause could be even slightly informed by the opinions of some from the left? Even I am willing to admit that there are some good ideas that come out of conservative camps. But banning people from public forums based on their political leaning isn't one of them...I think it might backfire on you.

We are aware of many issues with the site, again this is a "pre launch". Please don't misunderstand me, I do appreciate any criticism as it it easy to overlook things you've seen a thousand times. Seriously, thanks.

I didn't expect total approval. FWIW, are you saying I should attend the DNC convention with my "Vote Bush" T-shirt on and expect understanding?

No, but if I'm trying to advance and expand an agenda, I might want to know what the other side is thinking.

If you want to have a clubhouse, that is one thing. If you want to have a serious discussion of the issues and try to make this a better country, that is something else. I think the latter requires the input from both sides.

But, your $, your site, your choice.

Your points are well taken and are issues we have addressed, researched and made decisions on. Again your thoughts are welcome.

Kurt, I sent you another confirmation email, ddid you get it? If not you may have put a typo in your email address? PM me the correct one and I'll check.

I cannot help but think I am crossing some lines here on Wayne's site. I posted this a little in haste upon getting home. Z-man, can I get a ruling over here I certainly do not wish to disrespect this site. Please let me know.

Hmm, lemme see:

1. Personal attack? No, I don't see that in the posts above.
2. Flaming? Not yet...
3. Inappropriate content? Maybe an extreme leftist would argue that, but most people would see your website as someone simply expressing his views.

I think you're ok. You are posting your views. Nostatic is simply posting his. That's politics!

Happy mud-slinging to all!
-Z-man.

PS: you OT folks really need to get out and drive your cars! I suppose the OT forum will turn into a Ghost Town after the votes are all counted (hanging chads and all!) Well, there's always the More Random Pics thread to fall back on....as you were....

I tried to click on "Articles" and seemed like the site stalled entirely. I really can't give an opinion yet as I'm not entirely sure what you aim to do with this site. But the term "soft money" came to me when I read "contributions," and when I saw campaign ads, I thought of moveon.org.

Then I read the diatribe between you and Nostatic, and became disheartened that you might not allow opposing viewpoints full access to your site. That to me would render the whole exercise as a waste of time. If your agenda is important and its foundation strong enough, you would want any and all different thoughts to come in and challenge it. If you triumph over various opposing thoughts, you win.

As I said, the site seems to have slowed down - I guess it's all those Pelicanites looking in on it. And I would like to go back on and check the rest of it out. Full access (not posting to one forum) is key, though. You don't want to be accused of supporting the same old cronies the liberals themselves accuse the Republicans of being, right?

One of the things that bothers me most about listening to Limbaugh:

When a left-leaner calls up his show, Limbaugh nearly always refuses to address the caller's issue, and instead dismisses the question as that of a "seminar caller," and therefore unworthy of discussion. Then it's on to his standard, well-rehearsed diatribe..."I see you people coming a mile away."

I think he severely weakens his own credibility by refusing to meet those on the other end of the political spectrum on their turf and take them on. Instead, he uses the fact that it's his show, his venue, to dismiss them out of hand.

I guess it really depends on whether you want to preach to the converted (ala Limbaugh) or really make a difference and maybe change minds.

Just something to think about from a right-of center moderate.

The site has PLENTY of bandwidth so I'm not sure why you would experience a slowdown. The site site is about promoting not only conservative leadership for America but conservative ideals in general. Comparing us to Moveon is not really fair. Nostatic was kinda close with the clubhouse statement. I guess you can look at it this way, how would you guys react if someone jumped in the 911 board asking questions about his Nova II drag car? See what I'm saying? We created a couple forums for those guys, but in general it's not constructive to our mission. Again, thanks for the criticism, it's all helpfull right now.

Lendad,

When I have more time I'll dig into the site....so far I like the layout. One quick observation, it's customary to have a "New User Registration" near the Login box. I had to hunt for the "Create Account" button.

Rick
