farmer guys, corn?
ok, i am a bonafide city guy (from texas). how the hell can i tell if corn is ripe? i searched around the web, but i can find a good answer. i asked a old timer and he started in with lunar cycles and stuff. my ears slammed shut. i planted a bunch. they are about 5 feet tall, and it looks like a footrace between me and a raccoon, on who gets more corn this year. damn rodents.

Pull back some of the husk, pop off a few kernels. If they're light yellow and sweet, you're good to go. You can just lay the husk back and twist up the corn silk again and it will be fine. If it's really dark yellow it's probably chicken feed.

i usually wait until the hair stuff from the top of the ear is dried up pretty well.
here's a pointer-> chew corn good. i had this corn backed rattler once... nearly S'd myself again when i spotted that sucker. same with shell fish, its shell fish in, shell fish out if you dont chew them up good. i was once at the coast fishing, crabing and gathering muscles, we drank a ton of beer and then feasted on our catch. apparently i did not chew the muscles well enough....
