Karting question, offroad.

Does anyone make the offroad equivilent of a shifterkart? My brother and I have a lot of land to make an MX style track (sans triples and the like:)) and would love to race with our buddies on such a setup. I know the Honda Pilots were kinda in this vein but a 14 yearold Pilot is still $5-$7k and are a little off the mark from what we're looking for. Seems like this would be a riot for 5 -10 guys on a Saturday, and a hell of alot cheaper than laying down 1/2 mile of asphalt.

seems like a tough order. Offroad is all about suspension travel...kinda the opposite of a shifterkart. You could do quads or 3-wheelers (do they even make those anymore?)

Interesting concept though. I saw a mini rail buggy at Sportmart the other day. Something like that might work.

ahh, Gogole is your friend:

The Rally buggies look neat, but maybe alittle too offroad. The idea is to create a roadrace course on clay with maybe a few small jumps. If the jumps are what would kill the goose, maybe just reinforced shifter carts with a cage would work. I would like a fair amount of safety as libations would likely be involved.

Karts are not suited for that kind of use/fun, IMHO. I've had karts around for over 40 years. I've seen every Wal Mart version of a kart made. A quad is the dirt mobile.

But on smooth asphalt, nothing is as fun as a kart.

None are too safe if you drink and drive.

Zeke, I see what yo're saying. I am not thinking anything in the league of pro Karting. I have been to a few amusement places where they put you in these mini sprint cars, adults only. I like the idea, but an actual road course would be alot more interesting. We are not talking 80mph straights and the like. IMO having a drink and being drunk are two totally different things. I have been passed on the autobahn by a V12 Merc doing 150 and the driver was enjoying a nice brew. Perfectly legal and IMO perfectly safe as long as restraint is used (don't get plowed).
