Today is My Birthday

49 today. Where in the hell has all the time gone? This song's for me and everyone else that are no longer the young lions.

Stood there boldly
Sweatin’ in the sun
Felt like a million
Felt like number one
The height of summer
I’d never felt that strong
Like a rock

I was eighteen
Didn’t have a care
Working for peanuts
Not a dime to spare
But I was lean and
Solid everywhere
Like a rock

My hands were steady
My eyes were clear and bright
My walk had purpose
My steps were quick and light
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like a rock

Like a rock, I was strong as I could be
Like a rock, nothin’ ever got to me
Like a rock, I was something to see
Like a rock

And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams

Twenty years now
Where’d they go?
Twenty years
I don’t know
Sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they’ve gone

And sometimes late at night
When I’m bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin’ a ghostly white
And I recall
Recall

Like a rock. standin’ arrow straight
Like a rock, chargin’ from the gate
Like a rock, carryin’ the weight
Like a rock

Lihe a rock, the sun upon my skin
Like a rock, hard against the wind
Like a rock, I see myself again
Like a rock

Hi Kurt,
Happy Birthday! Yeah, even now I feel a little beat day to day. I'm 37, three kids, struggling to make our life full, happy and safe. If it wasn't for love, this would be just plain toil.

The thing that gets me up every morning is the aspiration for a better future. I don't want to work for someone else until I'm ready to retire, and be exposed to the employers whims. So, I will change my future into what I want. Independance, prosperity, healthy family, P-cars, racing. The good stuff.
Sorry Kurt for the dribble. The lyrics just got me thinking how I don't want to look back with fondness but look forward with anticipation!

Happy Birthday!

Troy

Happy birthday Kurt! Just keep the petal to the metal. You still have plenty of time and life left. I'll be turning 62 in a little over a month & am still living life at full speed & plan to until it stops. It's not those who die with the most toys who win, but those who take every chance to live every part of life they enjoy to the max who win.

if its any consolation, Bob Seeger is older than you.

but you're old...

oh wait, I'm 42. And catching up fast.

My new philosophy is to realize that in 5 years I"ll look back and say, "man I wish I'd done xxx 5 years ago." So do it now while you're "young".

happy b-day. At least you're not 50

Happy birthday, big brother, from another Gemini. I turned 45 two weeks ago. Seems like yesterday "My Sharona" was on the charts and I was serving pitchers of beer to drunk-ass jocks at my college bartending job @ U of Minnesota. Oh well, sigh.........

If it's any consolation, I heard recently that "50 is the new 40".

Come back in a year and see if you still feel like a rock (without the little blue pill).

Happy Birthday!

I played ol' Bob's song proudly when I was 49 and still framing houses. I had a 35 inch waist then and still do. You're young. Happy birthday!
