Was the quote posted in it's entirety?

Usually the editing of the quote is what causes the problem.

Some people here run with things they made up, or postulated about you, and then crucify you for something they themselves said about you.

The quote function should not allow any editing.

I have seen a similar BBS interface that doesn't allow quote editing.

It's only pudding? Thank God!

Yes, Lynn, I would have a problem with that. Not to wander too far here, but it seems like a lot of what the BUSH LIED!!!! crowd b!tches about stems from similar, frequently deliberate, misattribution and subsequent "running with it" once "everybody knows" he said XYZ when he didn't.

Frankly, though I've got a problem w/ it even when my favorite targets are misquoted. If you're going to pillory someone, it's incumbent upon you to be as straight-up w/ the facts as possible. OK, I'm done.

I concur, and said as much in the other thread (where said crime was being committed most recently). Misquoting someone is a complete failure of integrity, demonstrates no moral courage, and is just wrong. In order to have useful and productive discussions, we need to retain some semblance of order, and basic integrity is critical to that.

(Misunderstanding -- that's a different crime. Sometimes people are just terrible writers, and someone on the other end is less literate... differently literate? Whatever, incapable of taking the same ideas out of a piece of text than the author put in. That's just miscommunication, which is different entirely.)

But misquoting, blatent misattribution, etc. -- yeah, that's wrong.

Dan

Dan,

I wasn't even aware it was possible until I looked closely at this thread. I wasn't even getting it on the other thread.

I don't keep track of who lacks the moral courage in here.

There are some that have pudding for brains, but that can usually be ascribed to upbringing and parental heritage. In one case, I think it is because the poor SOB lives downwind of open-air chem warfare experiments at McDill AFB.

From now on, I'll just assume that we all lack moral courage.

Software glitches and Clinton's national hallway example to our children allow us all to live down to his standards.

I will be watching all of you criminals more closely from now on....

Still checking for chocolate pudding as we speak... Michael.

Sing, I wouldn't have figured you for someone to blame integrity failures on external causes -- I was placing it as a personal responsibility item. (shrug) Makes no difference, it ain't right.

Dan!

I agree wholeheartedly.

The Clinton reference is what young people use these days as a reference. Have heard this personally more than once to excuse some inexcuseable behavior.

I wonder if this will make it past the censor

You mean you can attribute any kind of statement made by a person regardless if he/she said it or not? Like this....

Ok -
Here's my $0.42:
If you are going to quote someone, keep it clear and simple. Don't leave room for mis-interpretation, and don't quote people falsely.

HOWEVER, If someone quotes you out of context, don't have a cow - you can respond to their post by posting what you truly meant in your statement that was quoted. But don't let it turn into a pissing match.

We are adults here - let's act like it!

Now can we just move along and continue with the never-ending political mud-slinging? That's almost more enjoyable than bickering over who quoted what and how...
-Z-man.

Lynn, I don't know if Z-man truly understands what is happening. I didn't until I had it happen to me.

Perhaps we should illustrate.............

Hm .... What can I do with this?

Quote:
What singpilot meant to say
Z-Man is a worthless sack of dog feces, unworthy to continue wasting the common air that the rest of mankind partakes of. May Z-Man's life be short, and his death long; may he be cursed by the fleas of a thousand camels. I find the comments and moderation of Z-Man to be a vile stench, an atrocity upon the face of the earth.
How's that for some healthy misattribution? That's only slightly misquoted, right?

I get the point, Dan. BTW: Dog feces is an excellent source of nutrients for your lawn. At least, that's why I suspect my neighbors are determined to leave their Fido's poop on my lawn!

This is "who's quoting what" thing is getting out of hand. I believe everyone needs to just take a step back and chill out a little. This is the OT forums at Pelican Parts, for crying out loud! This is the internet! Contrary to popular belief, not everything you see and read in the WWW is truth!

This quoting thing is being done in threads where politics are disucssed. Politicians are crooked, right? Well, I suppose people get a little crooked as well when they discuss politics!

I suspect that most people here know your views, Lynn, and as such are aware that people using your name in a quote that you didn't make KNOW that it's not you posting stuff like that. I think the whole thing started off as a little joke and snowballed into this. There are far worse things that we can all worry about than what's being quoted here. Just let it go. Laugh it off: don't take it so seriously.

Now back to your regularly scheduled political mud-slinging...

When are the elections over again!?!?

-Zoltan.
