What do we think of the type 997?

Didn't spark the controversy that I'd hoped for over on the 944 board, so I'll try here...

It's probably lost forever what it once captured in styling, IMO.
You just can't beat the hard edges of the earlier 911's, their very distinctive.

And in my opion whatever gains were made to the frontend were lost in the rear.

The aggressive posture is long gone. The front fenders need to rise above the downswept hood. The headlights need to be more upright. It needs ATTITUDE, not the same old wind tunnel styling.

Better than the 996, but not much.

I like the front lines a lot actually. It isn't the same - but if it were we wouldn't have as much to talk about.

A giant step in the right direction!

PS - look how goofy the Cayenne looks in the last picture. Man are those ugly machines.

With the little I see, I like it but hope that the rear lights get the reflector across the back again and the hood vent. The smooth hood can't be too strong...it looks like it would flex a lot.

The body is getting really smooth...man, the 911 will be produced forever.

I think most of us are in agreement on the hood vent and the rear reflector. Hush... now pelican's. If we listen closely, we will hear 996 prices come crashing down when these hit the show room floor.

The styling is evolutionary: based on the 996 body, with a hint of 993 in the headlights.

Are they going with a 3.6 or 3.8 flat six?

Yessir, I like it!

I think that is what should of followed the 993. The 996 is way off. I cant wait for the 996 prices to dive so i can pick one up for a daily driver.

the hood may look flimsy, but look at the hood in pics of the Carrera GT... it's the same - or, at least, the same basic design.

3.6 in the regular Carrera, 3.8 in the Carrera S. I like it!

Go to the Porsche website and watch the films of the 997 there... very cool.

While I prefer the classic 911 shape to the 996/7(the 7 is an improvent imo) they are still gorgeous cars.. nicer than 99% of whats avaliable.

Its ok. I looked at some 996s yesterday as a possible purchase...and the interior and some exterior parts came off as being cheap. Just a non descript car that I wouldnt buy unless its a Turbo.

Hopefully the 997 will possess more quality. Its not like the old days with Porsche anymore.

The more I think about it the more I miss the hood scope.
