How do I change my homepage back?
My homepage has been changed to some search site. When I change it back and reboot it goes back to the search site. I have used SpyBot and it found some stuff but did not fix it. Anyone know what to do here?
Thanks, Ed

use spybot and adaware,
"FIX" what it finds then goto tools, internet options the first tab (general I think), and change your homepage manually

That is what I did but it did not work. It just resets itself anytime I reboot. I downloaded spysweeper and am trying it now.

Yup that one is worthless also. Good thing I did not pay for it.
I am using Mozilla now. Looks like IE is about to be banished to the dark depths of the recycle bin. TO HELL WITH MICROSOFT... TO HELL I SAY!

This sounds familiar. What is the webpage or product its advertising?
Do a search on the web for that product and look for a technical forum or specific instructions on how to remove it. Sometimes you wind up having to go to another website to get it removed ![]() ![]() |

silver944,
is it this site? http//mypoiskovik.com /index.htm if so, it's been well documented and i have a fix for it. let me know. to prevent this in the future, goto Tools, Internet Options, security.. Custom level. disable ALL ActiveX controls....this will protect your computer from these types of things. you may get prompts once in a while but it's not too bad. good luck. |

Change your homepage manually back - go to TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS and type in your homepage at the top of the window. As far as getting anything off your system that might be running in the background, download AdAware from www.download.com, install, update it and run it - it will delete/quarantine anything causing ads to pop up. You will also have to check manually to see if anything else is still on your system. Look in Program Files directory and see if any program you know you don't use is there and get rid of these.

Sounds like there are some DirectX experts here. I run W98 and keep getting an IE update for DirectX note. I do the update, it installs OK, but I keep getting a DirectX update note no matter how mant times I install it. I have checked the dxdiag, but nothing stands out there. Any ideas?

OK, I downloaded that CWSshredder and without opening IE, I right clicked and went to properties to change my homepage, rebooted and it works now.
The page was not advertising any product it was just some HmeSearch page that would cause a lot of popups. It seemed to be good at popping up a popup just as I was about to click on something so I would click the Popup. IE can still kiss my a$$.
