Wayne: BBS Feature Request/Suggestion

I use a pop-up blocker. Since I don't check my user CP often, I sometimes don't see a new PM for weeks. Another site that I freqent has "You have X new private messages in your Inbox" displayed prominently near the control panel button. Can this BBS software do the same?

Thx Wayne!

now how does an unreplied to thread get a 3? i smell fish, and it aint my mustache... blue care to explain?

techweenie 06-28-2004 02:57 PM

"i smell fish, and it aint my mustache"

More's the pity. You can never spend too much time at the sushi bar.

BlueSkyJaunte 06-28-2004 03:27 PM

Hmm...dunno, it was a 1 before...

theFONZ 06-28-2004 04:17 PM

Doesn't your email tell you you have a PM? That is how I always know. A little display would be cool though.

I'd like to see a popup ********* blocker.

Just think... I would not appear on lots of peoples' threads, but most importantly, certain ones would not show up on mine!

Mikey likes it.

Yes, I know about the ignore, but sometimes after a cab ride in NYC, I just want to be entertained.

1) some way of caching/saving a post during the time between the "send reply" button is hit and the time it tells me that me most recent magnum opus has been lost to the ether b/c of some server issue.

2) a way of modifying a search within search results.

3) there was some friction in these parts recently about people changing others' quotes when inserting them into posts. If you can "lock" a quote, it'd probably help.

4) less talk, more rock.

Frankly I think (#3) is just silly. But that's me.

turbo6bar 06-29-2004 07:00 AM

I'd like to see a 24 hour waiting period for all political posts. The server puts your post in a cache, and it's posted if you come back 24 hours later to authorize. If guys said some of the things printed here, they'd probably get punched in the face.

I don't expect Wayne to do this, but it'd be nice to get rid of the who's weiner is smallest arguments.

Yankee911 06-29-2004 07:07 AM

I agree 100% with turbo6bar about "If guys said some of the things printed here, they'd probably get punched in the face." That's been my whole deal on the short time I've been on this board.

Mul jumped my ass within 24/36 hrs that I came on board and I just jumped back. I don't think a 3 day cooling off period would fix the problem. An ******* is going to hide behind his monitor and type whatever outrageous ****e he wants to with no consequences. Mul is guility and I'm guility.

How about throwing us together in the drunk tank for 24 hours and see who comes out with some manners? Or better yet, how about an equally enforced warning or two to calm down and then bounce their ass for a week or so. I'm sure willing to abide by it.

I can't believe I forgot this one -- is there a way to sort/search by Pelicanhead's locations? Can you add a ZIP Code field to the personal information, so you can search for P-Brothers in an area? Having travelled some recently, it'd have been nice to PM a couple of them about being in town, rather than having to try to remember where people say they're from in their signature blocks (which don't provide "hits" in the search engine).

PS I'm loving a guy named Yankee911 in Boston. I saw a great shirt at the Mets/Yankees game Sunday:

1918
Babe
Bucky
Bruckner
Boone
Any Questions?

Sometimes #3 could be important. I think it is a good idea, you know, for some people that cannot control themselves.

BlueSkyJaunte 06-29-2004 10:54 AM

LOL singpilot! :D

Now, if I posted under the name "singpilot(space)" about the three-way I wanted to have with Billary, then I could see cause for concern. But the moderators should take care of that sort of situation anyway.

Intentional misquoting of people happens all the time. Just read a newspaper...

Finally, anyone who takes their posts on the OT forum seriously really needs a reality check. I mean, look at some of the stuff around here.

Yankee911 06-29-2004 11:13 AM

It's probably just me, but I guess Mul needs a reality check based on your descriptive post. He seems to take himself pretty ****ing serious.
